Interesting, I seem to remember ANDRA wanting the walls set up like this before they would look at sanctioning Calder Park again.

Is it possible Bob is finally biting the bullet and conforming to ANDRA's track specifications to get affiliation?? Would be great to see real drag racing back in Victoria.

No there not looking for ANDRA sanctioning, the drag strip will now be just a drag strip all circuit racing will be done down the dummy grid straight, this is why the wall is moving back towards the drag track and the Christmas tree will be moved 15 meters down the track.
This way they can prep the track all day before a drag meeting and no other cars will be racing on the drag strip itself as you would know there is something going on there everyday, in regards to circuit racing, now they have there own straight.
I here there is a big push to bring some type of competition circuit racing back to Calder.
Our best hope for ANRDA racing rests with those who are behind the scenes trying to get a new track up, it will happen the question is when..

Looks good, build it and they will come !
Just don't expect everyone to come straight away, us racers need to see commitment from Bob, before we tip all our money back in our cars. And I don't mean 1 meeting commitment, I mean a season that won't be cancelled after the first meet cause there was a small show.
I am not hanging it on you guys, I appreciate all your efforts and good will. And I DO want to race at calder again, just want to be sure before I spend up and get the car going again.

Notice how they are just laying those concrete blocks on crushed rock. Where are the foundations. All it will take is for one car to hit the wall, meeting over.......

The prices will remain the same, but instead of 5 hours racing like we had on Friday night we will now get at least 8+ hours of racing..

The walls being put up are Ex SA F1 Grand Prix walling, im sure it will be just fine... FIA approved...

Heres some details

The FIA Regulations for Drag Strips including NHRA & ANDRA sanctioned strips set out the requirements as follows:

Regulation 7.1: Track Width: must be a minimum of 15.2m, Calder Park is and will continue to be 17.6m

Regulation 9.3: An approved barrier (usually concrete walls of 1m in height and 250mm thickness) must be installed immediately adjacent to both sides of the competition area from the waterbox the at least 300m past the end of the 1/4mile, and continue between the return road and the braking area. Any breaks in these walls are to overlap in the direction of racing

Dont really plan on racing it much anymore.
Will still do the Aff day and the odd Ford meet here and there.
I have cord hanging out of my slicks, but I still have my old M/T street radials I can destroy.

Hi Wayne, with Calder moving the start line down 15 meters are they getting a new timing system or is the current timing system and beams being moved/recalibrated to suit the new starting position of the 400meters.

New timing system and the timing boards were purchase back in mid 2006 so they are fine, the reason there had been a lot of issues with the timing over the last year was because the wiring from the beams to the race control centre computers and then to the timing boards was a mess and past its useby date, it has now all been replaced with brand new wiring.

The race control centre that was on the hill behind the strip has been moved to above the walk through tunnel on a 15 deg angle to the strip.

Thanks to the responses on the survey we ran the times will now be shown in mph & kph and hopefully if the software is up to it, it will show the RT and the 60 foot time.

Cheers
