Default Privacy in today's internet world

Australian arrested in Savile child porn case. A prominent 82 year old Australian entertainer was questioned in November 2012 and he has now been arrested. Do a search on the internet and his name appears yet none of the media can name this well known person.

I think the privacy laws need to catch up with the new reality.

It's well known and published on the net who it was under suspicion, those pages are still available for viewing.

Recently published pages about this "person of interest" probably attract a penalty from the courts as he's now been arrested, possibly charged and has the right to a fair and unbiased trial.

What has been said/published on the internet cannot be unsaid. There's no privacy laws that have to catch up with the new reality here - it cannot be undone.

Cheers!

Opinion piece on why certain individual hasn't been named.

No judge has ordered reporting restrictions in relation to xxxxxxxxx, no super-injunctions prevent the reporting of news concerning him, instead his lawyers Harbottle and Lewis are citing the Leveson Inquiry’s report in letters to editors of newspapers – cowing them into silence. The Leveson effect is real and curtailing the freedom of the press through fear.

I haven't sited the website, because the individual is clearly named.

Hmmm, makes you wonder about the importance of freedom of the press. Various governments are all trying to restrict so called "bad" media (mostly because the media is reporting how utterly incompetent the government is) and the same "bad" media laws are having unintended consequences in allowing lawyer'd people to silence the media from fully reporting the facts.

The press is either free to report or it ain't.

There is a thread that is making some very serious allegations.

After a fair bit of research I cannot find one legitimate source for the information .
All references are internet forums and blogs which quote other internet forums and blogs.

I have hidden the thread and should the allegations appear in a legitimate medium I will restore it.

Further posts on this subject before that time will be deemed inappropriate.

Edit:

As this is now public domain it has magically returned.

This is a volatile topic so please ensure that there are no defamatory posts made or it will go away again.

Still why did it take so long for the media to fully report this? As it would seem that a name suppression order was not issued...

BTW very disappointed...

sadly, if it is all found to be unsubstantiated, and remember he was NOT charged, him & his family will still be tarnished by it.

I see by 2 posts above we still have members with no morals and a lynch mob mentality . he was questioned and released without charge but you see him as fair game. your posts are defamatory and uncalled for.
if someone falsely accuses you and you were questioned by police and released without charge would you be happy for your name to be dragged through the mud by malicious spiteful unethical fellow Australians ( I use the term loosely here as you lack of allowing a fair go is very un Australian)

Fair call, my post and the one by MrEL should be removed. That was before I heard the story properly, I know now that Rolf was only questioned and released. No evidence against him exists.

This would have to be one of the very worst thing to be accused of, no matter how innocent the old bugger might be he will now always have this hanging over his head.

Always a sad state of affairs when these things happen. If you are in the public eye, you are made public through and through .... sometimes justified by the lynch mob ..... most times they get it wrong. In this case, I don't know as I wasn't involved in any part of the investigation and neither was 99.9% in the internet world. Lets see if anything else comes of it and then see if there is a story to discuss.

In the meantime ...... lets leave the bloke alone and let FB have all the opinions on this one.
