My Great Aunt is 90 this year, and as a result, has decided to relinquish her license. Her car is a 1999 BMW 530i, with wait for it, 9,000 Kms on it. I being the only Family member who still keeps in contact with her (my Grandmother, Father, uncle, and her other Sister all have disowned her due to an attack at Christmas in the early 90's), have inherited the car. As some of you know, I have a Mazda6 on order, and am expecting it in about a month, however the BMW is being dumped on my doorstep tomorrow morning. I am at a loss of what to do. My Aunt definitely DOES NOT need the money, and the car is too good to sell. I have a dilemma on my hands, and I have not told my Wife yet. I got the phone call this morning on my way to work.
If you were in my position, what would you do? Would you sell the car, or try and cancel the Mazda. I have always wanted a BMW, and until now, they have been out of my grasp, however tomorrow, I will have an at new, $100,000 car, which I may never be able to afford again. -Andrew

Try and cancel the Mazda. Let me put this as simply as I can
BMW E39 530i >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Mazda of any kind. The Mazda 6 is a nice car, but next to the 530i, it doesn't rate a mention in my books. Plus the 530i is free (how often do you get a free $100k car which is almost brand new???)

ahh umm.. errrr... try and cancel the mazda then, or sell the territory. If you can afford to insure and register and fuel the three cars then go for it. If not, make the decision about which car you would rather.
Sell the BMW and pay of the house or the other 2 cars? |

You so must keep it! If you don't want it, I'll happily ditch the Pintara for it and take it off your hands :
Who could say no to one of these for free.... Man... *can't stop drooling*

It doesn't have the M Class Wheel, and has Grey leather, but the colour is the same. It also doesn't have a body kit (I think). Steffo, you couldn't afford the insurance. For me, who has been driving for 13 years, the insurance is going to be nearly $2,000. It looks like I will have to keep three cars, and use the BMW for weekends only. I still haven't told the Wife.

Don't worry, I'll get third party insurance for it... if I hit it I'm screwed... but its worth it for that car anyway
You sure you can't cancel the 6... or sell the Terri for the Bee Emm for you, and 6 for the wife?

Cancel the 6, they are pretty popular cars, dealer shouldn't have any dramas with reselling it.

Fortunately, it appears that there is a 14 day cooling off period with the Mazda. I bought the car on the 29th of September, and today is the 11th of October, so if I call Mazda tomorrow morning, and tell them that my circumstances have changed, I should be able to get away with canceling the car. I pretty certain that BMW is infinitely better than the Mazda. I am getting excited just thinking about it. I never would have thought that I would be able to afford a $110,000 car, and all for the price of Petrol to get it trucked from Linfield. -Andrew

OMG I can believe you are even thinking about it.
Either: 1 - keep the BMW and get rid of the mazda 2- sell the territory and give the mazda to the missus 3- give the territory to the missus and have the BWM 4- get rid of the missus But for gods sake keep the car! Or if you have to sell it to someone who actually wants it! My uncle has teh same one as that steffo, but grey, has all the accessorys and its awesome; but auto :( I thought all 530i's had the kit and wheels, if not then I dont think its an "i"

if you cancel the 6 you will be hit with approx 5% of the purchase price (it was 5% at the dealership i worked at , it may vary) as a penalty , it will be written in the contract. The faster you tell the dealer the easier it will be...

Polyal, the i bit at the end of the BMW Model code, is like the i in GLi. It stands for Injection, and in the 530, there are two models, the Executive, and the Sports. The 530i that I am going to be in ownership of is an Executive, not a Sports. The Sports has the M Kit, whereas the Executive does not. -Andrew

Mate, it is a 1999 model, which from my perusals at Carsales, should reach about $60,000, but then taking into account the EXTREMELY low KMs, I would have a guess at $70,000 for the car. I'm not selling it, so there is no point even looking. -Andrew

What steffo are you telling me BMW's dont depreciate at an incredible rate.
I like Audi but they are the same , you can buy a 1999 audi Quattro that was 130,000 new for about 25,000. And old BMW's do look crap in my opinion not saying a 1999 is old but its on the way.

If thats old then keep it, enjoy it, the kays will get back to average at some point then trade/sell it.
Just check the service costs, cost of ownership can far out way a gift at times.

BMW's age more gracefully than a Falcon, and a 1999 model BMW is more technologically advanced, and more engaging to drive than a Falcon any day. Have you heard the exhaust note on a 3.0 BMW recently? It puts the BA 182 to shame.
Dellboy, the car has had servicing every year, and the first thing I do with it is get it serviced, and then take it on a drive to Queensland in early November. Those cobwebs have to be cleared out somehow. -Andrew
