Had my first run ever at WSID on the 12/3/08. Total of 3 runs and the 1st run being my best time of 13.931 @ 100.55 MPH. 2nd run 14.8 and 3rd run 14.5. Car is BFII GT auto with Herrod headers, Hitech exhaust, Bluepower CAI and Bluepower tune. All runs in manual mode. 1st run i just planted the gas and shifted, the other runs i stalled it up but it just seemed to bog down. Car in full street trim.
What is the best way to launch these things? Im also looking at purchasing MT ETs, but i am not quite sure what size rims. Whats the ideal setup seeing that BFs have 19in? Last question I promise. Best place in Sydney to have 3.9 gears fitted? Sorry for all the questions but I gave up the smokes and it seems true that when you loose an addiction you pick up a new one. all the BA and BF that i know that use M/T's run standard 17inch rim with 275 wide mt's on it
they will fit over most rear brakes that i have seen good luck and its quite fun going down the 1/4 isn't it 6 speed auto? i would have thought you would get a bit better 60 foot time but as you say launch is the problem stall it up to 2200rpm then stand on it of the line make sure your right in the sticky tyre marks the other cars have left as well that might help

Hmmm pretty good for a first run. When you say "it bogged down" do you mean it felt like it was restricted in power, or did it spin the rears?
Also, you currently have 2.73 diff gears so changing to 3.9's is over the top (too short). By the look of it the WSID haven't been giving any readings for the humidity lately. I was there a few weeks ago and the reading was zero for all the runs.

A 2.2 sec 60ft is an okay launch. With those mods you should really be trapping higher speeds than that though. How many km has your car done?

Is 100mph the best mph of the night? I think its is similar to stock gtp's. . In winter it should do better though with a few improvements.
100mph indicates around 200rwkws for that run. Smithfield diff and gears did my diff.It works really well and I do reccomend them.

By "bog down" I think he means it sorta hangs in the revs for the first 60 odd feet, it just doesn't feel like it's going anywhere then it comes on.
My XR6 does this, I managed to overcome it for two runs but have never got it to do it again.

With diff gears your best bet would be to go 3.23's as with the 6sp auto they are 2.73 from factory, a friend with a BF XR8 went to 3.23 and went really well with the ZF 6ps box, did a 12.85@109 with hedders/tune/cai and on street tyres (dunlop sp3000). If you go MT street you will go slower with out a bigger stall convertor but you cant do as they havnt released the software for the ZF box and tuners arnt able adjust the box to suite the stall, if you still want to get some Rocket Indristries is your best bet, you can run the 275/50/17 and get yourself some 17" alloy rims to put them on. Another thing is your 60ft, you should be able to get it down around the 2.0 mark which will improve your time by about 4 tenths at least, but carfull not to stall the ZF box up to much as they dont like it and can go into limphome mode. A good place I know of to install the diff gears is KCDR drivetrain 02 96797747 speak to glen or another is Craft diffs they also are very good too. And if you have a Bluepower tune your best bet is to have a chat to Chris, the best guy around to help you out with tips at the strip. I'll be heading out tomorrow night if the weathers good, should come out for a run and say hellow. Last edited by Quadcams; 25-03-2008 at 05:44 PM. |

I ran 100mph is an auto BA XR8 with just a CAI, you should be going a fair bit quicker than that being a 290 with those mods.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I also expected a much better time with the current mods. Maybe to early as its only got 6000 klm on the clock. Also first time ever for me on a strip so the adrenalin was peaking. A few more visits will hopefully sort that out.
By Bogging down I was referring to stalling it up on take off, it just seemed to loose power, but after reading Wades post I think he was spot on with limp home mode. Thats a new one for me, should of been looking at the tacho. At what revs on stalling it up would you expect it to go into limp mode? Wade I cant get out their tomorrow but possibly the following week. Im keen on throwing you the keys, GRIN GRIN (again). It would be great to have someone with experience give it a go. Hopefully by the end of this week I will have the car dynoed for the first time. Very curiuos to see results. Anyone willing to have a stab with current mods of rwk? I will post results. Its a BF II 290kw. |

Don't worry about stalling it up or self shifting. Just step off the brake pedal and mash the accelerator and let the auto do the work. My best time was achieved without stalling it up and using D-perf mode.

Seen a BF XR8 ZF6sp do a 13.0@109 2.0 60ft with only hedders and tune, becoming pretty common with the BF range. Last edited by Quadcams; 28-03-2008 at 06:32 PM. |

Had the Gt on the dyno today, ran 249.5 rwkw on Bluepower tune. Car then retuned on dyno and now producing 257.7 rwkw. On driving home noticed car not to be as responsive as original tune but does seem to have more down low. I will leave this tune in for a few days and see how it goes, but for the 8kw gain in tune I prefer the Bluepower tune, its just so more aggresive and responsive. Looks like a trip to Victoria on the cards soon.

Thanks hot460. Currently running Bluepower generic tune and honestly cant wait for custome tune. Have a job to do shortly in Portland VIC, I usually fly down but will definately drive down this time. Need to get more Ks up so this will do nicely.
Hey Rich what diff ratio would you reccomend. I had sort of settled for 3.7 or 3.9s but everyones opinions seem to differ. Im not fussed on economy. Quadcams, I wonder if this thing was in the 11s would you knock it back even for an auto? |

And if you change your diff gears you will need some sticky rubber for sure.
