Howdy y'all! Recent considerations have been whether or not I want to put a scoop on my AUII ute. Nothing crazy, just one of those low ones. Most likely to be purely cosmetic, but something different from the rest of the crowd. Maybe a couple of those EB GT vents also... Anyways, let us know what ya reckon. If you've seen any, even better if you have photos! Or, if anyone can be fudged, a quick computer mockup. Cheers!

I really like the EF XR ones, they look good on almost any car and you can buy stick on copies pretty cheap from supercheap.

i have to agree, do you need it? Personally i wouldn't do it to my ute, maybe if i had a turbo, even then it would need to actually provide a benefit.

My apologies if this comes of as b!tchy, but how would it carry any more of a **** factor, than say, the AU bonnet bulge from AWC?

the problem being that with most EFI set-ups the old school Hornet style scoops cant be functional from the point of drawing in more induction charge. So any enthusiast knows it a looks only mod. The vents on the other hand are a great idea to allow the heat out, something the pictured scoop wouldn't do effectively

I think the letter box style screams pro streeter. I think you would cop more criticism's with a scoop like that than the AU Bonnet Bulge.
Personal choice. If you like, do it. I have the bonnet from AWC and it serves nothing more than to give my car a different look. Mines an AU 6. Horses for courses really. I think make a choice and go for it.

Cheers Bucks. That's much my attitude anyway, but I'm still curious to see what others think. Personally, I think it would look kinda cool, however useless, but still cool. As mentioned, it's purely aesthetic and a means of standing out, but for the wrong reasons? Keep the feedback comin' blue-bloods!

Attached is a picture of an EB I found on the net, showing that a working scoop might actually be quite productive on an EFI car. Or is this where I duck and cover and shield myself from the bagging of pods that I feel I'm so about to get...? lol out: :nutsycuck

Looks like it might work ... still would suck in HOT air ... and also would probably get wet in heavy rain conditions.
I don't think a scoopr would suit the AU ... that only thing that really looks good is the bonnet bulge like what Bucknaked has.

if you like the look throw one on. I dont mind it myself. I have seen an au getting around here with one fitted, it didnt look right as the scoop was sitting level with the bonnet, and the bonnet was sloping down, which meant the scoop was pointing a bit towards the ground. I think it would have looked better if the scoop was sitting level compared to the ground.
As for being non functional, its no different to the rear brake scoops on xa/b/c coupes, or most rear spoilers you see getting around. |

What looks good to you might not look good to others. But i think the example you put up is not over the top & looks quite nice. At the end of the day your the one that own & drive the car so you need to be happy with the way it finish up.

have to agree with buck on the prostreet point, how ever I like it and was going to do the same to mine..but have since come up with another idea, as for criticism, so-what, is the scoop any diff than the bonnet bulde or gt stripes on a xr6 or even an 8, is your car, do what makes you happy, if we all conformed to what every else likes, we would all be driving the exact same looking car.I for 1 appaulde you for trying diff things to stand out fromthe crowd :

That's a ****er GT-0733! I like it... Anyways, you all speak a lot of sense, some pro, some con, and I agree with all of it. Does that make sense? haha. Hmm, just have to see what happens. For now though, in the next week or two, I'll be throwing on a shiny new set of Pacemakers, followed by a growling 2 1/2. Can't wait! Let you's know how it all works out. Last dyno came out at about 105rwk, and that's completly stock, so hopefully we'll see some improvement. By the way, if any of you's are photoshop users, or know anyone who does, is there any chance we might be able to see some examples of an AU with a scoop? Cheers guys!

Damn brain, got another idea... Anyone ever seen a shaker on an AU? More importantly, would it even be feasable? Don't know what the recent obsession is, but I think I just want something sticking out of my bonnet?! LOL

It should work on an I6, it connects up the airbox so i believe. And I6 and V8 airboxes are the same.
It's a lot of work, and would look pretty wrong. I think i'm gonna get some of these scoops for my AU eventually: But it's my idea (c) (r) (tm) lol

Are they like the EL XR vents? I've actually thought about that too. But, dunno, maybe I'm just in need of some speed holes! lol. God I love Homer...

Not quite,
I've seen a pair on a Falcon, and they looked fairly good. Another pair of vents are these ones: They are on Mr. Cube's XR... look reall good! They'd serve a good purpose as well, with some piping!

Whatcha think of this?
http://www.ssv.com.au/cache/item-153....html?cache=no Cut a hole, slap that on, and hopefully there's room for a pod filter underneath or something?

Bit tacky, you'd need the rest of the car to be done to match it. You'd need it dumped, 18s/19s, agressive bodykit, and a load of power, Otherwise people will just laugh at ya. You'd also need some sort of drainage thing happening, so water doesn't get everywhere.
You'll also need to check measurements, as that low series bonnet is might close to the throttlebody i believe. The heat generated from your engine right below, would wipe out any benefit that scoop would give, I think. Could be wrong. Would be different and unique, as not many people have that on their AUs You could just go for a AU Boss Bonnet from AWC, otherwise Mr. Cube's scoops are subtle, and would look great in person. They'd serve a small purpose to, if you do it right.

HMM.. still looks "stuck on" to me..
but the idea is good.. it wouldbe nice to see something like the AU shaker on FALKEENS ute actually grafted onto the bonnet. :evilsasmo |

You tryin ta say that my car aint agressive enough? Well 'I' reckon my car looks kinda mean. :P Nah, any lower and she'd be a b!tch. Right now it looks good and is still usable. If you can come up with anything else, it'd be appreciated. Cheers - SPS
