List of The World's Fastest Ford Modular 4.6/5.4 Powered Vehicles (1/4 mile)

seeing John Mihovetz run a new PB on the weekend of 6.19@235mph got me all excited and thought i would provide a list of the Top 50 fastest Ford modular 4.6 and 5.4 in the world just to show what the modular's are capable of. the list is not 100% complete but most main suspects are included. only 1Aussie made it on the list, but they done it twice with their cars Bridge Racing (number 7 & 17), good ol' Aussie boys showing them how it's done in the US

no video of the 6.19 pass of John's yet but some video's of the runs are included.

Number 2 on the list in my eyes should Steve Matusek (Aeromotive) but looks like they didn't include him as Accufab bought his car off him. Stever ran a 5.4 (destroked 5.0) with twin 80mm turbo's ran in the 6.40's@220+mph

Prasac, for your information the Aussie boys have had some good successes, with a 10.2 in a full street car on 98 pump with a stock engine/trans/diff over 4 years ago.

You bang on and say that we in Australia are lacking, then why dont you put your money where your mouth is and produce some results with a local product? where am i bagging out the Aussies? i actually pointed out the fact there was Aussies ripping it up in the US, not sure how u missed that.

as i said i would like people to build more here because we are lacking (by lacking i mean modular race cars), when was the last time you took your NA or blown modular out there? there are heaps of classes you can race it in, or even getting it out and promoting how good the engines are. the thing is getting it out there. i have promoted the modulars in magazines like Zoom and Street Machine trying to get the word out so people realise how good they are. i have old skool pushrod guys coming up to me saying they never knew the DOHC stuff was so good and well built of late. that's the type of thing i like to see and reiterates what i wanted to do.

that is the reason i am putting my money where my mouth is, why i am building a fully Australian built full tube chassis and engine

i have cat like reflexes so i should be fine, thanks for the concern

that is correct, but that doesn't mean straight off the trailer, will take a few meets to sort it out. have one of the best tuners in the world and a fantastic chassis builder helping sort it out, so i'm very confident.

the Accufab guys are definitely sitting on top of the Modular world, but it's not too say there aren't some fantastic builders up there with him like Bridge Racing, MMR. John has spent 100's if not 1000's of hours working on the modulars, coming up with new and wonderful idea's, and the good thing is he doesn't mind sharing

Norm Longfield is one of the longest running drag racers left in Australia , let alone the world . Owns the fastest Nostalgia Nitro Funny car as well as runs an Alcohol car .

I did a photo shoot for his Crewman who was licencing to race the car and still does to this day . Fastest car he had been in ??? Probably a stock V6 Commodore was his answer .

Very good post and well expressed. Agree that our local tuners are way behind our yankee counterparts in the modular motor wars, but we are slowly learning.

there is no $'s in a race program in Australia. the $'s here are in ur everyday streetcar, with tunes, CAI, exhausts etc. say ur a tuner, u do 10 tunes a week @ $600 a pop that is $6000 a week, $300k+ a year. say half of those buy a CAI that's another $150k. how many people would come in and ask for a 1000hp engine, maybe 1 a year? nearly half a million dollars. why would u need to do a race engine? however in the US it's different, the turbo, supercharger aftermarket etc scene is worth 10's of millions of $'s. 1000's of cars done in the US every year, compare to maybe the 20-50 cars done here.

all the R&D has already been done for us in the US. get an engine from the states Simon from XFT has a CobraJet engine, CAT600 has a 4.6L and a BOSS 5.0 all 3 of those cars make close to or over 1000hp they were built here they just use the yank variant of the modular and not the Aussie BOSS

nah way to big in cube, was an 8L. impressive times though and made some awesome power, especially on diesel. imagine if it was on Nitromethane it would have made close to 25000hp

Got any times of modulars that are street registered and actually driveable on the road - they don't have to be 9 second cars, but would be a good comparo to the likes of Cat600s beasts. The above are "just" drag cars - I think Aussies are more interested in have a fast and streetable car.

i know of at least 10-15 cars on the list that are registered and street driven JIMS-SVT, Tim Oswalt, Karl's, Mark Larson etc, it wouldn't surprise me if there was another 20+ more things are different today, turbo's have made it so easy to drive a 9,8 and even 7-second street/strip car.

i will use my brother's Capri as an example, run's 8.3@164 with a little 4L Lexus V8 with twin turbo's 910rwhp@29psi in Dan's FG the same setup is good enough to run an 8.6@156. nothing special done to the car, has a 2-speed (1970 Capri had a 3-speed), 9'' diff, roll cage for safety, runs leaf spring and the factory rebuilt shocks on the front, it's driven to the track and does around 200km's a week in it. drives n feels better than an original stock standard Capri. turbo technology & EFI especially with DOHC cars has come a long way.
