I think it looks fantastic!! Styling and equipment updates result in a more mature finished product. Surely the Focus' strongest competitor is it's own baby brother/sister!! Thoughts??

The interior looks better but I'm not keen on the front grille.
Edit: Looks like it has a centre armrest. That would be nice.

I was worried about how the 'Aston' grille would look on the lower end non-ST models, but I'm pleasantly surprised!!

14kw less power?
That's a joke right? I appreciate the extra Nm's, but one thing this car does not need is less KW's. Interior design looks nice and I would expect the aircon to be upgraded to "climate control" status in the update. Armrest is a must. Hope it makes it past prototype stage. Wife will not be happy with the loss of the drivers door handle. As far as the OP's question as to the Focus comparison, I would think that Ford are moving the Fiesta further away from direct comparison by reducing power to achieve even better fuel consumption. No doubt their marketing will focus (see what I did there?) on the petrol bowser. Last edited by Pursya; 05-09-2012 at 05:50 PM. |

And just an observation, this car is all over Ford UK, Ford Germany's Facebook Page but nothing in OZ.
Now i get most of my new car info from there, i thought they might have posted something.

That's a he'll of a fuel consumption figure.
I'll reserve judgement on the engine. Turbo would certainly give it an initial kick in the pants though. |

Apparently on this engine we're going to be getting max torque from 1.3k - 4.5k RPM. Very usable and would definitely feel more powerful.
Looks like it's going to have an internal engine oil bathed timing belt. Would be fun to replace and putting E10 in it will probably make it cry. Being turbocharged will most likely increase overall maintenance costs and also insurance premiums too. Skeptical until it comes out. |

From all reports it's apparently a cracking drive: just wish Ford Aus had of put in the Fez last year because it will boost sales. Maintenance costs shouldn't change, if you get your car serviced by an independent mechanic. Wouldn't be surprised if Ford used 'turbo' as an excuse to jack up service costs at their dealerships though. |

Looks great i love how new cars these days are looking more and more classier
the 1 ltr ecoboost turbo would be pretty amazing i reckon best of both worlds TURBO! and fuel efficent but we will see how it all goes when they are released |

This engine is tiny from the pics. Has apparently won "2012 International Engine of the Year" being picked ahead of the VW 1.4 turbo by a panel of 76 motoring journalists so it must have something going for it.
If it gives same drivability as the 1.6 but uses less fuel then bring it on! |

Glad to hear that, though im still not sold on the internal belt. Usually internal belts happen in lawnmowers and by all reports they're a pain to get out and replace.
Wikipedia says the engine block is the size of an A4 sheet of paper. |

I can't get over the fact that in the MY13 Fiesta range the standard (1L EcoBoost equipped) models will sip 3 litres per hundred kays (half what the current 1.6L engine drinks) whilst (apparently) offering better driveability AND the ST with the EcoBoost 1.6 will sip around 6 litres per hundred, pretty much equalling the consumption of current (much less powerful) 1.6
Incredible!! |

Looks like the cambelt will not need to be replaced in this engine! To quote from a couple of sites I visited: "the cam belt, made from a mix of glass fibre and rubber, runs through oil and lasts the life of the engine." and " Cam drive via unique belt-in-oil design, giving full life belt, with advantages of quietness & lightness vs. chain."
Other interesting facts are that the engine uses a special low friction oil for further fuel savings and that the turbo spins to 250,000 rpm! Can't wait to take one for a test drive. |

This engine is obviously a tech triumph. I see it beat VW's entry by the length of the straight.
I just wonder how it drives. Fiat's twinair won the award last year. But, from memory, reports suggested that you have to work really hard to wring performance out it. Somebody here once quoted Porsche's chief engineer as saying there is no replacement for displacement. Has that now changed? |

Well considering how much they're used in Rally now it would make sense for an RS.

Ooo love the interior colour scheme. Wonder if its matched to the paintwork.
Looks like its still the hard plastic dash. The seats and handbrake look partially leather too now. Then there's the triumphant return of the armrest as stock! |

If Ford continues sourcing Fiestas from Thailand you can guarantee that there will be differences between what you are seeing here to what we will get.

I guess the point I was trying to make was comparing three great products (all with pros and cons) encompassing Economical Sports through to Hi-Po Sports. Never thought I'd get into hatches, but ford have won me over!! Not with the Focus, but with the Fiesta!! |

No doubt these pics are from top of the range models. Why would they show pics of anything else? Another poster questioned the continued sourcing of supply for Aus from Thailand. No doubt the economic case would mean Thailand will be the source for a long time. This is the 2nd facelift, I would expect a lot of goodies, like climate control, to be standard on the upper models. A lot of these things are held back precisely for such facelifts. This will more than likely be the last facelift before an all new skin so last chance to build value in to the product. |

Looks like we can finally get some decent side skirts for the 5 door hatch . Providing Ford AU don't charge thousands for them.. and they probably will.
Did anyone else notice the German spare parts for the WS have been made redundant and replaced with Thai parts but the retail price has not changed... |
