Default Best / Cheapest Renta Car company to use?

Im flying into melbourne for the motorshow on the 29th and need a renter car for a few days... At this stage im going with Hertz on a BF Fairlane but ive never had to hire a car before! Are Hertz good? Its $173 for the weekend which i thought was cheap, since it unlimited kays!

Cheers,

Brent

www.vroomvroomvroom.com.au

I spend 10 days a month in a hire car and use that site for all my bookings - pretty handy little tool.

A chap I'm living with is hiring a car for a whole week or 2 at around $20 a day, but that would be the price for the smallets, lightest car available???

I guess a BF 'Lane would be their prestige large car.

Thanx for that site GTP, will be sure to bookmark it.

we hired a ford thru hertz's website for the tassie v8sc and upon arrival at launceston airport they had a bits-r-missin 380 waiting : and no fords left!

Nothing wrong with an Aurion mate! You never know, you might even like it.

If you want a Ford, Hertz is you best bet.

We are holidaying @ Port Douglas next month, need to hire a car (LARGE wagon or 4WD) and three baby seats. So far, quotes are dearer than our accomodation.

EF XR6
EL XR8
AU XR8
AU TE50
BA XR6t
BA GTp
BF F6
and the Aurion aint that bad. Its 6spd auto and 200kw 6 would leave teh barge for dead..

A few suggestions .....usually they offer you an e-tag option, if your goin site seeing around melbourne last hire car i had i didn`t think i`d need it, i ended up using the freeway and forgot about it, about a month later they charged my credit card for the fine a hefty slug........so i would take the option it might work out cheaper, dont forget too have a wander around the car and and notate and damage to the vehicle and have them sign off on it before driving out, also check the fuel gauge its not uncommon for rental agencies to use the car for errands between depot`s and to drop off & pick up customers, sometimes the car will have plenty of k`s used out of the tank even though the gauge is on or close to full and when you bring the car back they charge you at top rate to fill it up, so best to fill it before you take it back.

take your own e-tag,they work on all the major tollways from qld thru to victoria and i agree with the fuel issue,i would go so far as to fill the car up at the nearest servo(the nearest to the melb airport is less than a kilometre away) and if it takes more than $2.00 grab a receipt and immediatly return it to the hire people and present receipt for a refund off the bill! i know this would sound petty to some but i've had many a rental car whose fuel gauge drops as soon as i leave the rental place and i'm not lead footed!
also there is the option of pre-purchasing your tank of fuel from the rental place so all you have to do is try to return the car with as little fuel as you possibly can.this can work out cheaper as the rental people get their fuel with a bulk discount i presume?
hope this helps

Hey man try thrifty. They are normally a little bit cheaper the hertz. if you were to go the thrifty route stay with the lane as there xr's are in the same pricing class as mitsubishi 380's, Holden commodores and toyota aurions. The lanes are in there own pricing class and IIRC they dont have holden statesmans.
