Default Why I will never buy a modern ford again.

I decided that I wanted a new car so I went down to the car yards to find a second hand car. My first stop was the second hand for dealer. In the yard, they had exactly what I was after. BA XL Egas Ute. 27000k’s like new.

I came back a couple of days later and had a second look at the car and asked some questions like. Does it have ABS? Does it have a tornoe(sp?) cover, MP3 cd player, Log books, etc. To which I had a witness
To all those questions I was answered yes.

I was ready to sign the paper work. On the day of the paper work I asked if they had the log books and the cover.
“Sorry we have lost the log books, we will get new ones straight away”
Then I asked for the FPV cover I was promised.
“You cant have that one. I do have a hard cover you can have, come back in a couple of days and you can have it.”

Fine I thought, I made them write on the sales contract that the log books were to be replaced.
I signed the papers, and came back for the cover a couple of days later for the cover.

When I got there, it was a used, tradies hard cover that looked like and came with no mounting hardware ($150). I took the cover and bought some brackets.

A week later, I found out the Ute doesn’t have ABS, not an MP3 cd player, and the hard cover was giving me the shits.
After to speaking to family member etc, I decided to write a letter to the dealership, outlining my problems.

I covered the absence of ABS, the broken promise of a soft cover and the non-mp3 playing stereo.

The following day I received a call from the manager of the new cars department, he said he was going to forward the letter onto the used cars manager.

I waited a week and a half. No callback. So I rang and asked if he received the letter. He had. A week ago, But never bothered to call me.

So we discussed the option to move forward. He offered to give me a new tornoe cover, find the log books, give me an audio cable and give me compensation for not having ABS.
Otherwise I could return the car.

He originally said the compensation could be along the lines of alloy wheels or the like, I said I had no use for wheel. However you could give me a motorbike rack and a sports bar. I told him I would fit them, thus saving him on labor. Coming in way less than a set of wheels.
He said he would chase this up and let me know tomorrow.

No call. I waited two days still no call. So I called him back he said he had nearly everything. He would let me know by the day after.

No call. I called him on the Friday and he said he had everything ready to go, I could pick it up on Sunday.
I got there and he said here is your motorbike rack, tornoe cover and audio cable.
No sports bar. I asked him where it was. He said he wasn’t prepared to give me a genuine ford one. He was going to find a cheaper one from somewhere else. I said I didn’t want an aftermarket one as they don’t fit the same. After arguing for a couple of minutes I said here is the keys give me my money back. He walked off, did some paper work and came back the with sports bars from spare parts.

Once of the dopey salesman came down to help put the tornoue cover onto the ute. In doing so he broke one of the elastics on the cover.

He then spent two hours trying to fix it, while im waiting there in the heat. So much for going down and just picking it up.

He came back out and put the cover on. Yay it worked I thought. Then he said lets get the log books he gave me the service history for a car with 90,000k’s I said this isn’t mine. He said he will chase it up. I asked if we could go to spare parts and get the manuals for the car(which they had in stock). He said no, I have to order them. I said fine and left.

Got home installed sports bars, rack etc. Went to put cover on and it broke.
I didn’t have time to take it back that day so I went in the following Saturday (9th of feb).

I went back and said it broke. “He said ok, all you have-“ “no I don’t want it fixed” I said. He continued to fix it. I said I want it replaced under warranty. He said ok, I said lets go to spare parts and get a new one. He said no I have to order it. I said fine.

I then asked what was happening with the log books. He said he didn’t have them.
I said this is ridiculous. I asked who was higher up than him and he gave me the name of the dealer ship principle and said he wasn’t in today.

As I left I said this is stupid. He then asked me what I said and I said this is ridiculous. Then he told me to “ off” and I said I will remember that.

I went straight down to the new cars section and asked to speak to someone about a complaint and she said she was the CRM. She took down the details and said she would have the principal call me first thing Monday, or she would.

Then this morning I got a call from some manager, telling me he had fixed the tornoe cover. I said I didn’t want it fixed. It broke twice and it will happen again. Just give me a new one. He said he would look into it. He then said the log books would be ready tomorrow. I said fine and hung up.

I then called the CRM back and said I don’t want to deal with this manager that I want to speak to the principal, because this other bloke was just as rude as the used car manager.

So now I wait for the principal to call me back.

Am I being too picky, do I expect to much? It goes to show, the log books could have been produced the first week I bought the car.
Regardless, I should have been sworn at by a manager of all people.

All this plus the problems of warped disks, gas gauge and numerous other problems.

Maybe I would have been treated differently if I wasn’t 18…

Welcome to the world of incompetent Ford dealerships.

From what you have described, it just the way they operate.

String you along and hope you give up and go away.

You can't blame the car, it's just a bad dealer that has ****ed you off.

Seems that there is too many of these type of dealers around that make buying a Ford a bad experience and make you never want another one again.

That's crazy i would have just returned the car and got my money back, it's too much money to have to put up with that much crap. When you bought the car you also paid for a service. It shouldn't matter what you say your the customer and the customer is always right and he had no right to talk to you that way. Don't give up keep chasing them up until you get what you want and what you paid for. It's things like this that give Used car Dealers a bad name.

What makes it worse is that when i rang ford they said there wasnt anything they could do about it.

"The dealerships are privatly owned"
"They represent ford there must be something"
"speak to the dealer principle"

I am not suggesting in anyway you do what i did, apparantly my actions have worked though as the Ford dealership has began treating there customers with more respect and treating Warranty issues more seriously.
Reverse your Ute (in my case BA XR8 Ute) into the Managers office and Bag it up. It cost me a bit but the facial expressions that were on the faces of the staff when the smoke cleared was total shock, Thats when i remindered them that they were there to provide a service to the public not to the public off.
Stick to your guns bro as i have and you will get what you want, it just takes a long time but if your in the right you will prove them wrong.
You are definately not being to picky when you pay for something and then you dont get what you paid for.

I don't get the topic heading - what does this have to do with modern fords? It seems from your description there was nothing wrong with the car at all?

It does seem like it was sold to you by a shady dealer who don't follow through with what they promise.

So.... you got shafted by a Used Car Salesman..... "Never buy a modern Ford again".... :

Yet another 'bag the brand' thread...... what BS.

Being 18, I'll give you a little friendly (and free) advice. - 90% of Used Cars Salesmen know nothing.
If you choose to take the word of the salesman and not check for your self, then, bad luck.

The fact that the Used Car Department are trying to get out of this 'as cheaply as possible' is no real shock/surprise either.

I'd suggest putting this down as a lesson learnt, for next time.

I wouldn't have given them back. I would have launched them through their front window by way of sling-shot.
Me personally, I would not have taken the car off their lot, or signed the contract until I was 100% happy.

I've only had dealings with the one Ford Dealer.
Bought the XH second hand. Had problems from day one with brakes. They told me during the first service that the disc's were buggered, and needed replacing. I told them that I had not worn out the disc's in 2000klm of steady driving.
They replaced them for no charge, problem solved.

I purchased my BA in the NT as new. Car sales side of things was great, not a problem at all.
Service was another matter altogether unfortunately. :
I had a great relationship with the dealer principals, but their service dept let them down big-time.
Luckily I have a great Ford dealer 60klm down the road to service the ute. Great prices too.

Don't let this experience put you off buying a Ford in the future. It's just a dodgy salesman afterall.
There's good and bad in every industry, unfortunately the bad always drag the good down.

Cheers

Darran

Modern ford was said, being exactly that you expect something modern and reliable.

Which im not seing here. It is one thing to test drive a car and it is another to own one.

Maybe the car i bought is a lemon.

I have no problem with the older ones. Such as my XB Ute.

@DJL351 - Being 18, i have never purchased a car worth more than $2,000. I went to a dealer, expecting a certain level of service and knowledge.

Dont have go at me because they dont do their job properly.

Which state was the vehicle purchased?
Here's what I found on MTA QLD website.

As at 1 July 2001, Statutory warranties apply to used cars bought from a licensed dealer. You will not receive a statutory warranty for a motor cycle, caravan, commercial vehicle, vehicle sold for wrecking or vehicle being sold on consignment by a dealer or auctioneer for a private seller.

Class 'A' Warranty
A three-month or 5,000km warranty (whichever happens first) covers a used car with an odometer reading of less than 160,000km and manufactured less than 10 years before the sale date.

Class 'B' Warranty
A one-month or 1,000km warranty, (whichever happens first) covers a used car with an odometer reading of more than 160,000km or manufactured more than 10 years before the sale date.

The statutory warranty guarantees that:

The car is free from defects at the time of sale for the warranty period, and
Defects in the car reported during the warranty period be repaired free of charge.
www.mtaq.com.au

Google MTA for the rest of the sites for each state.

All depends on which state the car was purchased in.

Warped disc's are a BA problem, not unique to your car. Do a search on her,e you'll find plenty of threads.
They should have been picked up while the car was under it's new car warranty.

Cheers

Sorry, that is a cop out. "don't blame me.... i'm only young..."

If you are old enough to secure a loan/money to buy a vehicle, the buck stops with you.

We should start a permanent thread that is always tagged..."Good experiences with Ford." People there can list where they bought their Ford from and why they (from your experience) are a good dealership.

By doing that, rather than go to disinterested, incompetent dealers, the good dealerships can be rewarded with greater patronage from people who don't want to put up with a steaming pile of poopie after purchasing a car.

Just a thought.

Broken down no.
If you read the whole post i also mentioned there were problems.

Requiring
Front disk machining
New LPG tank Senders
Loose front suspension
Rust everywhere

After 27000k's. Yea theres quality for you.

Did their job? Hardly.

There job is to supply CORRECT information and give a certain level of service. Especially when it comes to items that cost alot of money.

EDIT: not to mention, they should have picked up any problems with the vehicle before it was sold.

Car was sold in NSW and i rang MTA and they said ring DFT.

i read your whole post.
you did not mention RUST at all.
i really dont see what your problem is.
the car has a WARRANTY - these are all warranty items.
ford has a 5 year rust warranty incase of rust.
and since theres "rust everywhere" why the hell did you buy it?
did you even inspect the car at all?
