HOLDEN Forum - where?

I've had a great experience here in the Ford Forum. The depth of advice and support is amazing.
You guys have answered so many questions and saved me heaps.

Bought a second car and picked up a Holden Cruze @ Auction.
Yeh, I know ... commiserations

Now I'm looking for similar Holden based Forum.

Seems like a heap of specialist Forums, but not under one umbrella similar to this Forum.

My question is, does anyone know of a good Forum which would help me with my Holden Cruze?

Just Commodores is still there.Not a bad bunch of guys.Think they cover the Cruze.

If it's just the Cruze you are interested in google turns up some options;

Australian CRUZE Owners Club

Cruze Forumz US based

Chevrolet Cruze forum US based

Take advantage of the fact the CRUZE wasn't an Australian only model.

You could also try : Daewoo Lacetti Premiere

Fastlane. is about old Holden's and you will not find any better for true knowledge.

There is a Torana Forum that is good as well.

I doubt that an old Holden or Torana forum would be of any help to the OP

There are plenty of us on the Fastlane forum that could help out with just about any model Holden.

Many of the members there have either worked in dealerships or other professional workshops on late model cars.

It also depends on the query itself. Is the OP asking about a 'real' problem that he wants help with or does he want help fitting a new sub-woofer.

Keep an eye on the coolant level, mines 3.5years old with 100k, full HOLDEN service history. Just had it’s 2nd water pump and thermostat installed under goodwill, along with AT LEAST 6 other coolant leaks repaired under warranty. How GM can engineer these things with plastic cooling systems is beyond me.

The Daewoo Lacetti (J200) was a Daewoo design built between 2002 & 2008. We got it here in Australia as the Holden Viva. It was a smaller car than the Cruze.

The Cruze which was coded J300 by GM-Korea was a GM Platform called the Delta II. It ran from 2008 to around 2017 in most markets. It was badged as the Chevrolet Cruze in most world markets (including the UK & Europe), but called the Holden Cruze in Australia.

The car seen on Top Gear was the J200 Lacetti, not the larger, newer Cruze model. The old Lacetti was a Daewoo.

In South Korea where the Daewoo named still had a strong following, GM called the Cruze a Daewoo Lacetti for its first few years, up until 2011 when the Daewoo brand ceased worldwide. They then used the Chev Cruze name.

yes top gear used the first Gen Model.
the 2nd gen Daewoo Lacetti Premiere/ Cruze till 2011 when they changed the name on the Korean Building to GM..
so 2011 onward no longer has the Daewoo badge - but its still produced in the same place..

It was a lot more than a "name change" on a building.

New management, new engineers. Old factories closed, new ones built. GM changed a lot of stuff at GM-Korea.

Daewoo Motors ceased to be an entity in 2002 when it was purchased by GM. By 2005 GM had completed the takeover & the Daewoo name existed only as a badge on South Korean Chevs.

Not a lot of parts or design shared between the J200 & the J300.

Daewoo never "disappeared." When Holden bought Daewoo, they first tried to continue selling them as "GM Daewoo." When that didn't work, they simply rebranded all the Models as "Chevrolet. Not only did they keep flogging the same models, but new models simply rolled out of the Daewoo factories with Chev badges.

The Cruze started life as the new Daewoo Lacetti, and was in fact designed by GM Daewoo in Korea. All of the first Cruzes, including the Holdens, were built by Daewoo in Korea.
If you have a JG series, from 2009~11, have a guess where that was built.

Interestingly, I do believe that Holden had a hand in developing the Hatchback, as it was initially only a sedan.

But even the Australian versions were POS, with Holden forced to recall the first 10,000.

I think we're nit-picking here. The J300 was never a Daewoo except with that badge on the Korean market only. The car was designed & built by GM-Korea which only contained remnants of the old Daewoo Co.

It was released fully 4 years after the company Daewoo Motors ceased to be.

It's the same situation with Kia Motors now. How much of the old Kia remains now that Hyundai own them.

I'm just wondering how many Holden Cruzes you've owned or driven ?

My family has owned 3 (still owns 1) & apart from a few minor niggles on the earliest one they have been good cars, a lot better than other 4-cyls I've owned in the 80s & 90s from the 'land of the rising sun'.

Auto trans made of stickytape and glass. The % of failures would be scary if they actually released the figures.

When they blew up under warranty they made owners sign non-disclosure agreements before they would fix them. Should have the same reputation as the DSG in Focus.

Sorry I understand you have a few of these cars in your family. and no doubt they have evolved to be a better car than the original Lacetti.
Just like any 80s 90s car from the land of the rising sun is a better car now too....
The Cruise is made in the 22 year old Gunsen factory ex daewoo, they didnt go making a new facility as far as I can see.
GM announced last year the failing Gunsen factory would be closing.

I may be wrong here, but I believe the Gunsan factory produced the Barina/ Aveo range, which has now ceased production. Hence the factory will close.

GM built new facilities at their Bupyeong site to produce not only the Cruze, but also the Malibu & others which we don't get here in Australia.

GM-Korea's Bupyeong is where they are headquartered & has more than doubled in size over the last 10-12 years.

When the VE Commodore first came out I thought that many of the interior parts must of been made by Daewoo, what a sh1t box interior that was crappy plastic and that ugly rubber on the dash and tops of the doors, yuck !
But Holden improved it as time went on and got it right with the VF.

One hears all the time about just how good the new cars are nowadays, well yes I agree, they perform well as to years gone by and I don't see rust being an issue nowadays.

My brother bought a China built Great Wall diesel 4x4 when they first came out, I drove it and yes I liked it but for taking off turbo lag was rubbish but had all the power you need in a 4x4 and did everything real well not to mention they were top spec and that cost much more in the same body Holden, but it did have some problems like the clutch dust getting into the starter motor and turbo clamp popping off and some other stupid things and warranty was shocking totally worthless and he got nothing for it when selling it.
But many people thought it just was like the petrol ugly frog looking one before it but they were gutless petrol chewing rubbish.

I suppose it's much the same with all the new 3rd world made cars nowadays, they are not like the Jap made cars for quality reliability and that's why I bought a 100% Jap made car now, it's a 4cyl but just as quick as a XD 5.8L 4sp were and that will does me fine, I can cruse on 180km/h easy as pie and it loves it.
