Default db tested my exhaust

on idle was=76db
3500rpm and let go of throttle peaked= 100db
giving it even more peaked 104-106db


tested a mates proton gti, idle was 92db
3500rpm peaked 110db...lol

3,000rpm must be less then 94db according to the EPA afik.

Isn't the mic meant to be 1m from the exhaust, and not directly behind it? (like some shallow angle away from the actual exhaust)

Not saying you haven't done this... so it's actually more of a question that me is asking you (or others in the know)

those readings were prolly 30cm away from the exhaust


i tried my stereo out also, where i sit it pumped between 85-100db with sub and without, sub pumped 110 directly infront of it

The limit is 90db for an I6, i know this because i got done and was only 1db (91db) above the limit so they chucked in a resi and took it down to 89db (it may vary in different states) The limit for V8's is higher than 90db not sure of the exact figure.

It needs to be less than 90dB for a vehicle newer than 86 as far as i know.

1 metre away at 45 degrees I thought?
