Angry gotta say I'm disgusted

Hi All, gotta get this off my chest! My missus drives an e-gas car which only came with a "space saver" spare wheel, only good for 80kmh. Goes to leave work tonight, about 5:30pm to find tyre flat. Calls racv, but meanwhile some workmates leaving late helped change the tyre, & off she goes to get home. So far sounds good doesn't it? 2 problems though, tyre services are shut, & home is 55kms away up the Hume highway. She tries to do the right thing, puts emergency lights on, pulls into emergency lane where possible but there must have been a lot of impatient d@#d Sh^ts on the road tonight - the abuse she copped! Truckies & cars insisted on flashing lights, tooting horns, driving right up her @rse, some missing by so little she thought one truck had hit her! This is on a four lane highway with plenty of light to see by, not to mention her emergrncy lights. The missus also says that the abuse was all from male drivers when she could see them. Just gotta ask where do people get off? There no law says she has to do the speed limit & not her fault the tyre services were shut. We'll get a full size spare soon, but that s the end of any courtesy by me to fellow drivers in the future, i.e.no more moving right for vehicles merging off ramps unless the law says I have to, in fact nothing unless the law says. Wonder how p platers & learners get on in NSW?

yeah, its very wrong these days and i feel sorry for girls especially, just for instance when my mrs is driving around every where i look there some guy just staring at her some call out etc, i get out the window and have my say but it doesnt stop the next guy, its wrong how people treat girls these days but also how impatient and rude some people are....
unfortuantly its just todays way, you either cop abuse or you feed it back to them....
this post has really pee'ed me off...
yeah and unfortuantly the hazards wont get you out of trouble, my mate got done in canberra for going through a red light because his gear knob fell off and he couldnt find a gear, he also had his hazards on but still got a 1300 dollar fine

Actually, there is a law for driving too much under the speed limit and people have rightfully been done for it.
Driving at 80kmh on a freeway is not only stupid, it is dangerous.
Add into the fact that she was driving the emergency lane makes it all the more dangerous.
Driving with your emergency lights on is also illegal unless there is a hazard or if the weather is causing a hazard - having a space saver is not a hazard.

Sorry you think she was hard done by, but what she did was plain dangerous to every other motorist on that freeway.
I would have called the cops on her personally.

Hence why space savers should be illegal. Absolutely stupid thing.

Bit harsh, cant go over 80 on a space saver. Granted she shouldn't have had the hazards on but thats no reason to be abused and threatened on the road.

The spacesaver in question. Is that the steel 16" rim one?

As for it being pure stupidity. Perhaps driving in the emergency lane, but as the whole scenario on the highway is concerned, definately not. In my books she did the right thing by driving with the hazard lights on, which means she is signifying she is a hazard on the road by travelling slower than the rest of the traffic. So she gets the big tick from me for that

woops . my fgxr6 has a space saver , lease car . i've never had one before . i was worried about loading the car up with 4 people and luggage on an interstate trip . i guess i might have to give it some more thought . they do allow more boot space though .
sorry what happened to your misses . i guess though she should of stayed in her lane , not an emergency lane . but 8okms an hr is acceptable i think , would it be against the law is she drove at 90 and got pulled over and car inspected ?

The space saver already takes up enough space in the boot in Dedicated Gas cars as it is, the last thing people want is to have a full size spare sitting in the boot.

People probably unaware she had a space saver and was just some idiot who's car was breaking down but insisted on keeping on going, (not saying your Mrs is an idiot).

I know what it's like, my sister in law was driving her car when the overheating light came on, what did she do? kept driving because it was too hot to stop and call a taxi, anyway one seized motor later.

I think this means you are one of said yobbo motorists.

Geez I hope you get done over and only have a spacer saver, then your opinion might change.

I wasn't there, nor have I ever been in her situation, but I'm going to sit here in my jocks and pontificate about what she should or shouldn't have done according to law! And then I'm going to take my exaggerated opinion of myself to a different topic and complain about revenue raising! There is no limit to my hypocrisy!

Still should be made illegal.

There is no law for driving slow on a freeway or otherwise!
This isnt the auotbahn in Germany!
(You can be fined though under another part of the road act, just cant remember what its called)
However she drove in the emergency lane, had her hazzards on, therefor she did the right thing.
Those morons who abuse her are just the attitude that keeps getting shown on the roads day in and day out!
Its pathetic..

I can understand why you are upset. That said, she should have taken a different way home that didn't require her to go on a major motorway. Might have taken longer, but would have been safer for her and her nerves!

Welcome to the city.

So if going 80 on the freeway is dangerous, why arent L platers banned? Why do i keep going past L platers doing 80 on the highways????
I keep getting overtaken at 90 and seems like im a hazard too, large trucks trying to overtake within a mix of fast flowing traffic isnt terribly safe. Maybe we should ban P1's off the highway aswell.

People have to get a grip and get a life, she wasent plodding along in the middle lane, she was far to the side with her hazards on, what give people the right! Everyone is so angry for nothing. Yeah you had a hard day, and? Does not mean you can make other people's days bad or worse FFS...

I recall getting stuck behind a twit in a Ford Ka doing 60 in the 3rd from the left lane on the 4 lane part of the M5 heading away from Sydney. What gives? Im amazed nobody set her car on fire.

I feel your pain......

A few days after a new battery was installed in mums old car there was a short from the incorrect battery being installed.

Sitting at the lights, her whole front end started smoking up and nice large sparks were seen coming from under the bonnet. The resulting damage was a scorched bonnet that needed repainting, a whole re-wire and the replacement of several plastic components that melted.

Several big strong brave men didn't like the fact that while she was waiting for help they were being held up.. several got out of their cars and abused her.. telling her to drive the car around the corner and wait for help there (in words that you can only imagine...)

Man... what I would have given to be riding next to her that morning.

And I really can't believe there are people justifying the treatment Mrs Kennyboy received. There are much more important things in life to be getting all worked up about.

Seems like she did what she thought was right and personally I think she did the right thing. Unfortunatley alot of people get into their cars these days and instantly turn into assholes with attitudes.

I think its getting worse and I deal with it everyday. Dosent matter if im doing 120kph in a 100kph zone there always seems to be someone up my a$$ wanting to go faster and being a ****** about it.

Some truck drivers can be very dangerous. On the way to perth last week there was a caravan in front of a truck, behond the truck a BMW X5, then another car, then me. Road was clear so X5 indicates and pulls out, as they were nearing the truck, said truck swerved out infront of them with an oncoming car, all of us incl on coming car slammed on the brakes just because the truck wanted to get past the caravan. I held my breath for a moment fully expecting to have to attend a fatality. People are just so impatient.

BTW the X5 had heaps of time to overtake, the oncoming car came over a hill in the distance but the truck was trying to overtake a caravan, with 2 trailers going up an incline.

Firstly the OP didn't say "freeway"anywhere so to me highway means 100kph not 110. I agree there is no reason "that we know of" why she was or should have been abused, BUT to me someone warbling about in and out of lanes when no one actually knows when she may or may not come back on to the road is FAR more dangerous than just tootling along at 80 in the left lane.

Why cannot they use a tyre on a space saver suited to higher speeds?

If someone doing 80 on a freeway results in you being involved in an accident, you need to consider what youre doing to contribute. If its a result of some other nimrod reacting to the car doing 80 that hits you, its that nimrods fault, not the person doing 80. So what if it wouldnt have happened without them, it also wouldnt happen if you werent on the road either, but that is equally unfair. It hardly makes it the fault of the driver doing a mere 20 or so percent under the posted limit.

You may have answered at least part of your question here. Who is to say the other motorists, assholes that they are, havent got some story similar to yours? May I suggest you dont react like that. If you cant beat em join em doesnt help anyone.

Chances are, the motorists you ignore arent the same ones who behaved like troglodytes in the first place.

You have NFI ... I mean NFI !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The space saver spare is clearly labelled in large red/orange flouro writing "max speed 80km/h"

WTF do you suggest she should have done differently?

The only thing I would not have done was drive in the breakdown lane - I would have driven left lane (and no hazards). However I have sympathy for her as she was only trying to do the right thing.

Some people just need a bullet ... line up over here everyone who thinks she should be "punished".

Hey tuff guy, she was obstucting traffic which is dangerous and against the law, not to mention frustrating drivers even more making things more dangerous again. The problem here is 2 things, 1 the person that bought the car with a spacesaver and 2 the manufacturer who makes such crap which should be illegal.

That is rubbish

Vast majority of cars now are being sold with spacesavers, yes they are a crap idea but that's how it is. How about instead of bitching and moaning, we actually accept the fact that this is how it is now, and cut those who find themselves in the unfortunate position of having to use one a little slack.
