Default Exhaust for the Au 6

So

Just as a matter of interest, and to follow on from my experience later in the week

What have you found to be the best exhaust for your AU 6?

They reckon it's hard to beat Casper's system (which is actually JMM).

I put the pacemakers comp series small primaries 6>3>1 Ph 4480 extractors and exhaust on and they made a big difference.

Maybe the JMM race series could be a little better in the mid range but the pacemakers are good.

I got a before and after dyno done and its in my gallery.

I didnt like the idea of all of these pipes coming in the mail. But the extractors on their own seemed mangeable.

Now the only reason I raise this issue is that my area of research had always been the 8s, obviously the Kluger was never going to get any mods.

The stock exhaust on the Fairlane had to go, apart form not knowing I had the engine on, it just wasn’t right.

For a period of 2 weeks the new system that I had invested in was nothing but a drone, a source of headaches, and seriously a major contributing factor in power loss.

My mistake, I really should have research the VCT further before going off on a spending spree

Anhows, after recently fitting the JMM Stall, the problem certainly was pronounced further, as the car was now driving will within the 2500 - 5000 range on a constant basis, yep me bad.

Well the boys at JMM where somewhat shocked at the farting and hum that the system was producing, me? well at this stage I was knocking back the pain killers as the headache had turned into a migraine.

After a couple more days of self induced trauma, i decided to re book the car into JMM and dump this monstrosity of a system and install theirs...

Well I cant spare anymore time ATM, I am off for another spin and I will update the thread later on

So John,

It went from 115 to 136 rwkw with just the extractors? Or the extractors and the exhaust as well?

By the way, what did these mods do to your insurance premium when you told them? Did your fuel consumption increase in general running around or decrease? Do you have any rough data on this?

Bye the way, these are not smart alec questions, I'm really interested as I might consider doing it myself!

Cheers,
George

I found I couldn't fit the Pacies on the ute (due to the gas mixer) ... grrr.
So I could only put a cat back system on ... gives it a nice tone ... 2.5" cat back with small rear muffler ... only cost me $375 at Carline. Damn shame I couldn't get the extractors ... oh well.

Gives the Gas motor some more punch ... and sounds a lot better than stock.

And now you know. Good to see you enjoying them Gary. Told you, the VCT is a different animal and the JMM headers and exhaust really open up its full potential.

Did they fit the old race series headers or the new Streetfighter Headers which are now part of the DEV packages?

99 Futura wagon the before and after dyno with extractors only was 105 to 116 rwkw. The graph is in my gallery look it up here.

Then it went from there to 136rwkw with the dev3hl cam only.

Cheers.

How much did it cost for the jump from 105 to 116? 9rwkw

And then the jump from 116 to 136? 20 rwkw?

Did you find better consumption as the engine breathes much better? How does the consumption go on the hwy? I would love the trip computer LOL.

I spent $1100 to get the pacemakers PH4480 extractors 2.5" system with straight through and resonator in mild steel with fancy big oval exhaust tip new hi flow cat (that was a rip off though its not needed) and before and after dyno run fitted installed the lot.

I was pretty happy with it.

Same day same place they did a VR? Commodore V8 exhaust system and mine beat it on the dyno!. The owner was not happy about that. I will admit it sounded better though.

Sorry about the bad cut and paste from excel but i hope you see the picture. Consumption varies all the time but on average it got worse!

I did drive the car a bit harder I guess but as a rep its mostly spped limit regular route trips.

Seems to be plenty of opinons on the best system, but no facts to back them up. Lets see some before & after dyno sheets on the JMM V Herrod V Pacemaker & stop all the here say!!! SHOW THE FACTS.

Hi Steve, the only fact I have every time we made a change, we took my brothers AU6 Forte to the track, and conditions will always be a little different.
The 2nd Mod we did was Pacemaker Comp Series headers PH4480.
day meeting ET: 16.2, Pacies on ET: 15.8 run at night.
The cat back at this stage was the standard Ford exhaust system.
It now has a PB of 14.63@96 mph….before we cracked it open went ET: 14.86.
its an Auto.

Plenty of facts to back up the pacemakers on an OHC six here already.

My before and after dyno and hamo's 400m times all facts black and white posted up.

I would love to see someones before and after on the JMM race series. Heard big talk of after only dyno results but not before and after same day same dyno.

Oi

Back to me here... everybody look at me....

The previous exhaust was a Di Fillipo, unfortunately in the case of the VCT engine as researched by Casper, just allows too much flow to effectively complement the motor and its components

JMM exhaust has been developed for the 6 in mind, specifically to the VCT.

I don’t have Dyno results, but I do have my thoughts on how the car has reacted to the change

The note is cleaner and crisper, the "*** meter" has certainly noticed the difference as well, and the car revs freely through the whole range comfortably, or should I say aggressively.

Am I happy, bloody oath!

Well you're happy with it so thats all that counts big fella, interesting though how you say the Di Filipos didnt do very much but that would explain why a few people have tried selling their Herrods systems on here, they are one and the same. Actually though I wonder if the De Filipos/Herrods system would not be better on something that maybe needed the extra evacuation area.

As for the whole comparison deal unless someone can convince the manufacturers to supply a set each of their pipes and tests are done on an impartial dyno then it aint gonna happen, unless someones willing to pay for the bits and the dyno time. I think we all know that the only true way to compare is on the one vehicle simply changing the systems and registering the results,
