Default Buggati Veyron no longer the worlds fastest production car

As the title says. Overtaken by the SSC Ultimate Aero TT. Still i'd like to see them lined up head to head, still reckon that the Veyron would be a better car overall.

http://www.leftlanenews.com/ssc-sets...ed-record.html

Really clever readers might also note that it looks like the rear end has been heavily redesigned after there last failed attempt in march.

What amazed me was the seemingly lower tech donk that blew away the Veyron. Twin Turbo V8 beats a Quad Turbo W16. I figure that the Veyron is probably more streetable though.

The SSC wasn't compromised by its company CEO. The Veyron was a design first, stipulated to be used by the CEO of VW. He wanted that shape, that thing, to exceed 400km/h.

Looking at it that way, the Veyron is still the winner. The SSC is a no compromise design weighing 1690lbs less using 196hp more power to go 2 mph faster and accelerate slower on its way there.

Plus look at stress levels... the Veyron's engine is built to be able to run day to day without issue... 987hp @ 6000rpm and 922ftlbs @ 2200-5500rpm with a 6600rpm redline. Its about as stressed as a Falcon I6. If it were to be set-up the way most small displacement high power high strung supercar engines are, it would probably be making well in excess of 1500 or even 2000hp.

well just think of this if buggati want the faster car title back small tweak here small tweak there and then an even better quicker car, so there back on top
but i dont think they will do this at the Veyron was only really a show car they are selling it at a lost, it was more just a yeah we can make this and it does all this

The Bugatti is an engineering masterpiece, no matter if you're doing 60km/h or 407km/h the car is as stable as a rock, handles well and is designed for daily driving. The occupants are also draped in loads of luxuries in the cabin. Everyone else can bring out their stripped racers and other such cars but for me the Bugatti Veyron will always be king.

The thing with the Bugatti is it will do 407 kph all day everyday. They purposefully limited the speed to 407 because there wasn't any need to go faster and the tyres are designed to be able to go round corners, drive in the rain and all weather conditions and stop well so there is doubts at how they would last above these speeds.

I doubt the SSC could do the same speeds all day everyday and if Bugatti want the crown back i'm sure they could just make a minor change to the electronics and pick up 3-4 mph. Or they could put tyres that are a bit more focused and pick up 10-20 mph

As others have said, it's the whole package that makes the Veyron the benchmark in supercars...it can come to a complete stop from 250mph in 10 secs flat, cover the quarter in 9sec and is limited to 407km/h because the custom made Michelin's can only take 15min at that speed!!

The McLaren F1 looks way better than the Bugatti but it'd slaughter the F1 in just about any other contest.

Until the day that someone puts both on the same track/day/driver who knows which is fastrer. The McLaren was built to different specs. Only time will tell if there is "lunatic" willing to put a supercharger on the "F1", traction would be a problem with that much power.

Well... the F1 does 7:45 on the famous Nurburgring-Nordschleife, putting it dead even with a Mercedes-Benz CLK63 AMG.

The Veyron does it in 7:40, putting it dead even with the Mercedes-McLaren SLR, Porsche 911 Turbo, Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 etc. Various modern fast & supercars.

The F1 is very out of date and would get hosed just about anywhere by any modern supercar. Actually, it doesn't even take that much, a new Corvette Z06 will lay the stomp on a McLaren F1 on any race circuit you can name.

F1 = overrated by many. It was good 14 years ago, it isn't anymore.

Just wait until VW get some better tyres developed so they turn up the turbo boost on the Veyron.. it's quite under stressed at the moment.

Bugatti is working on the Veyron GT with 920KW compared to the current Veyron. Top Speed estimate is in vicinity of 430-450km/hr.

I think the Bugatti's fuel tank only takes 12mins (from memory, please correct if wrong) to empty at full tilt anyway so the tyres are going to stay within that range.

I couldn't care less about supercars, in fact most modern cars for that matter, but I think the Veyron the most amazing out of all of them, it's a feat of engineering, amazing skill, design, the lot. That to me is better than any top speed record.

Here's the Bugatti dragging my favourite supercar...the McLaren SLR which only has 626hp/780Nm.

Sure it gets hammered by the Bugatti but seriously listen to that SLR engine roar...god damn!!
