Hey ppl i got a fairmont au II and just last night i was driving home and the speedo stoped working. No matter how fast i got the speed wont go up past 0km even in reverse. Is this a fuse problem or wiring?? Every thing else on the dash appears to be working like the rrp go up when i reve the car. Also it dosnt appear to change gears either is that because it does not work without the speedo??

I had a similar problem with my 2000 model. Mine use to as you were driving along just read zero on the speedo and stay in third. Then it would go back to normal every 5 mins. My problem was in the actual dash cluster which I replaced with a 2nd hand one which works excellent now. Apparently it is a very common problem. Also mine happened at 270 000 kms. Hope this helps.

It can also be the speed sensor attached to the side of the gearbox (also known as the transducer).
When this goes the car will go into limp mode so the gearbox will be stuck in third. Costs about $80 to fix.
