Default Winternationals 07 Pics and Reflections - not 56k friendly

Well as most of you know the big show has come to town for the Queens birthday weekend.. What a fabulous day, so many tough cars, excellent weather for making hp, just not so good on the spectators :P

A few of the AFF members are having a hit out, I'll let them fill you in after the meet is over. Surprisingly in the Super Street Class there was a notable absence of late model heavy hitters. There was one Pursuit ute there, that at this point in time was going to not make the field to his qualifying time not making the cut. It ran a 13.1(something)

Some of the other streetcars are simply amazing, backing off before the line to not break the class index of 10.00 is astonishing.

Any way a few pics.. If you want pics of something inparticular, ask away. I have 300 shots from toady and another 2 full days of racing to go yet
I've resized them to small incase this thread fills up with heaps of images. If one takes your fancy or is your car send me a pm and I'll send you the hi res shot.

AU luxury?

An AFF'er carving it up

All business :P

Some tough old schoolers

THis thing is absolutely insane, 4V heads and a pure monster.. the video of the throttle sticking floated around here a while back, but even when everything is roses it still bites into the track and lift the fronts .. It wheelies like nothing else there..Ran 9.30 with 2 wheels in the air.

Nice pics Tibbo, thx for sharing..
Plenty of real racing cars..
The Fairlane with RDP on the quarters, is that a RDP owned car?

edit:
World's Fastest Smashed at Winternationals Warmup.

Victorian driver Peter Kapiris has recorded the World’s fastest Top Doorslammer pass, rattling in an impressive speed mark of 247.66 mph(396.25km/h) during the event’s official warm-up.

Aaron and Tyronne Tremayne Of most significance was Tyronne’s 7.151 second effort across the quarter mile which was under the existing 7.157 second National record for the category and the quickest time ever recorded in the history of Pro Stock.

LAst ones I promise.... until tomorrow :P

There was a Torana that literally stood on the rear bar, I kid you not, it was almost 90 degrees to the tarmac, but the little bugger spent so long on the start line spooling it, I looked over the camera to see if it had stalled :(.. A few of the pro-photographers got some awesome shots of it standing verticle so keep your eyes peeled arouund the place for those shots.

The Kings of speed are approaching for the last decider of the night, Phil Read the Australian Top Fuel Champion will strut his stuff alongside Phil Lamattina, my bet is on Phil to win this final, Read’s dragster is sounding crisp, as does Lamattina, into stage, the wick is lit, they are on and off the throttle, it’s a peddle fest and Lamattina does the best drive for the win and a fitting conclusion to this Exceptional 40th anniversary of the Winternationals.

Wayne Newby the new Australian Top Alcohol Champion is already celebrating, he just has this one little thing to take care of…the final of the 07 Winternationals, in the lane alongside him is American driver Ron August Jnr, does it get any better for a man on a holiday? A wholeshot to Newby, can he hang on to the end, yes he does and Newby takes the daily double. What a great pass by Ron August Jnr and a great experience.

Tyronne Tremayne and Young Hollywood Shane Tucker, Tucker hasn’t been running the fastest of numbers this weekend, but he has been winning races on the holeshot, Tremayne on the other hand has pulled out some very impressive numbers this weekend. We expected a burndown but not happening, Tucker had the wholeshot, but Tremayne quickly makes short work of the Tuckers lead and rounds him up. A great win to Team Tremayne.

The Boss Brett Stevens, it would be fair to say it hasn’t been a great weekend for Team Stevens, but with Dion Prowse taking the win and the Championship, the weekend has turned and now we see him and his team mate, Troy McLean in the final…its side by side sixes a wild ride for Brett but nevertheless he takes the win..

This is the final of the heavy hitters of Pro Stock Bike, can Dion Prowse clean sweep the season, he has won every race at every meeting right up to this point, Prowse has won the championship already, Peatey is the retiring champion, a good reaction will take the win. Peatey has wholeshot Prowse but Prowse seems to find some horsepower and he takes back the race and the win.
