Default HSV Oddity

I was down at Glenelg this morning, saw something rather interesting:

Once I started taking photos, a few people rocked up. Didn't get to talk to the owner, but I think they thought it was my car!

I didn't do anything to dispel the myth... :

I have seen a few driving around, I don't understand why people choose them over the RWD LS2 model though.

They're not all that awesome.. AWD.. 270kW 475Nm LS1.. and heavier then a BA GT. Slower then a VZ SV8 or BAII XR6 Turbo... I can't understand the point of the Coupe4.

But it sure looks nice....

wasnt there a fairly low limit on the 4wd setup in these?
hence why only 270kw etc?

i believe it was due to the exhasut being restricted by the awd hardware.

only available in auto as well - dont see the point for an awd auto

I think its 0-100 in 5.3secs but not sure. Even still thats alright for an auto AWD IMO

The reason i dont see the point is because an awd setup is not going to effect how an auto launches (unless it is heavily modded) i.e. autos dont get uncontrollable wheelspin off the line like manuals.

Hence the only real point is to take corners faster once moving - but its a muscle car - if you wanted to take cornes faster your going to buy an EVO or STI not a big barge **** HSV tank.

Still looks good though and d in an alpine area it would be hard to turn one down.

In their dreams.. tested back to back.. Coupe4 gets 6.6 - 6.4 to Clubsport R8's 5.6 - 5.8. The Coupe4 is really slow, especially for $90k or whatever it costs.

I like the way it looks though.

Think about a clutch drop in peak torque with 5.7L of grunt, 4 wheels of traction and near 2 tonne sitting on top of it all.... that would want to be one hell of a drivetrain.

I'll give it to HSV - it's something VERY different. Shows genuine 'sack' putting something like that on the market.

Looks awesome. Needs Vortech.

It's a remarkably photogenic car that is actually ugly as sin in the flesh.

The gaps between the body and tack on wheel arches are UNBELIVABLY huge.

I would love one of these things.

V8 AWD= Awesome.

Guys who cares if its slower then XR6Ts and SV8s its still looks mad. Also remember its auto aswell.I bet if it had a 6 speed and was a bit lighter it would be a different outcome.

It's a good conept that one of the two big Oz companies should put in more R&D. Think about it, theoretically it would have better traction in the wet and twisty bits opposed to the RWD Coupes, so it'd keep up better with the little Jap rockets, and then slaughter them on the straights with all those extra cubes.

I think it's an unreal concept. Lose some weight and give it a six speed to make it a bit more suited to the application and it'd be a very nice item.. I'm not a fan of the flared guards though.

Well done PULLY for getting some pics.
Nothing worse than a thread about someone that saw something but didn't get any pics of it as their dad has their digital camera and wont be back from Japan for another 3 weeks.

no deards, they didnt "sacked" the monaro due to bad sales.

coupe 4's do look good in the flesh, very tough. they may not be a rocket, but as has been said its a tourer...

something different for a change too...

So no-one here would buy a AWD XR8 or GT if Ford amazingly pulled a "low-riding" AWD system (not the "high-riding" Territory system) out of it's corporate ***?

We're lucking in Australia that we don't have great extremes of weather they have in other countries, but I've driven through some bad storms where I wish I had the extra security of AWD ..

Personally I wouldn't as I prefer RWD handling. I know plenty of people who would though.

Those who have spent their time around dyno cells and the like will know who the RGV plates are owned by. Rob had this at Summernats 05. Which I think at that time they had only just been released maybe? Let us only hope he is weaving his magic with this one too.
