half cut is basically a car cut in half, and you buy the half. usually the front end, they are purchase by people wanting to do engine conversions etc, its a good way of doing it.

Can I ask what the half cuts gonna be needed for? If its not a newish Ford, I'd just go a SR20DE (non turbo): similar power, stronger build, more aftermarket goodies, cheaper, easier to access. IF your going to put the SR20 in though, you may as well get the SR20DET (turbo) in.
Very very very unlikely to get a Duratec halfcut I have to say. Half cuts are very popular with cars exported from Japan where you can buy a S14 200sx for the equivilant of $2-3000. The only burden with bringing a full car is the freight, taxes, tarrifs, compliance, grey import laws(pain in the ***) etc etc so the more popular option is get rid of the useless half of the car, freighting the front over at a fraction of the price and transplanting the good gear into an already delivered 180/200sx. Having said that, most countries that have the Focus won't be having drastic resale drops nor make it unviable to repair a damaged car. Cut a long story short, the only way you'll get a half cut from a Non-Jap car is if its had a rear ender and the tailgate is crushed all the way to the dash board. FRA: Your retarded. |

need a new model engine to meet current ADR regulations as I'm building a kit car. Will need to check out auctions - Duratec would be ideal due to 107kW & light weight. Thanks for the ideas though. If i could get away with it the SR20 or 4AGZE would be used.

I'd happily use a Duratec 2.0, they're seriously ready for some work. Applications in Europe have them running upwards of 220HP N/A, that's over 160kw. Torquey bastard of an engine, a real pearler.

160kw for a modded 2.0 n/a isn't massively special to be honest, you should be able to get that with relatively few mods on a modern engine
In regards to the clubman the issue would be the gearbox, assuming it's rwd you're really going to be better off starting with something rwd to begin with. I'd be looking in the direction of S2000, MX5, renisis, beams altezza etc |

type 9 gearbox - can get adaptor bellhousings. These are getting common in UK but I can make an adaptor easily enough. Yes it is a clubman 600kg with 110kW good enough for me! Duratec is one of the lighter engines around & that's the whole basis of a good clubman build.

Because the Focus 2.0 Duratec is also All alloy and much more powerful! Both Mazda 3 and Focus have Alloy block.
The following link might be very handy for explaining some stuff to those who don't know much about the various engines... http://home.comcast.net/~cobar/duratec.htm

If its going to be RWD, meeting current emissions, Id look at Lexus IS200 engine, any current cab cassis ute with RWD and a 4 pot, Mazda MX5, Volvo RWDs (is there any?) If you think you can engineer a FWD engine to go RWD, Fiesta engine should do the trick(more likely to get a wrecked Fista than Focus as well) |

Ever thought of using a Alloytec V6 from a VZ, or the heavy donk from a Falcon? (these would be more cheaper and more plentyful)

Ok. Once again I just was going through Rob's replies in here and found this one. So may I ask exactly what is the problem with asking the simple question....."What is a half cut"????? There wasn't a single problem with the grammar and it was a basic question asked in reply to one of the threads. As a member on here aren't we allowed to ask questions without being slandered???? |

FRA: Your retarded.[/QUOTE]
Ok since we are all getting snotty on here about english and grammar let's have a great go at this one. FRA: your retarded? Come on. Maybe you should go back to school and learn to spell. Because using 'your' in a sentence structure such as this one should be spelt as ...YOU'RE. Let's get it right here boys. If your going to slander and have fun at someone elses expense at least do it with correct spelling!! |

i tihnk the 'your retarded' comment was directed at the fact that a person that's supposed to know something about cars thinks a half cut has anything to do with a convertable lol, google it next time so you at least sound like you know what you're on about

The fact is, anyone who supposedly imports car parts should know what a half cut is. I'm from a technological background and when someone mentions that a computer has RAM already in it, I don't think of a warm woolly male sheep. The lack of expertise of your company in this market is what brought apon my comment. |
