Hey y'all.
Been after an exhaust for some time now (insurance issues) and i have been offered extractors and exhaust for $700. Exhaust is $290. Do extractors effect sound and performance much or are they a waste of money? Cheers.

they are a very worthy enahancement, extractors and exhuast will provide a nice gain on just about any stock engine.

I've been told they give a deeper sound. But i don't want the massive drone.

Ive got a EF I6 (5 speed) with genie extractors, 21/2 pipework (press bent) into a single SS Walker Ultraflow muffler, no res. No drone, just a deeper, more angry note when I'm up it. I fitted the extractors sometime after the cat back system, and yes it did change the note a little. Sounds more 'hollow', not raspy or anything, just more open or something. Probably makes no sense, but there you go ! The above combination took RWKW from 102 (stock) to 118. Noticably more eager to go ALL the way to redline. Still not like a twin cammer, but much better. Bonus was a slight improvement in consumption of the liquid gold....... hope this helps.

well I asked the same thing ages ago and got hammered...even though I was told by a guy who works with ford that they dont do that much...which is true, but they do a little bit atleast.
Im going to put a ful system just for the fuel saving benefits...lol

I didnt really notice too much of a difference once the extractors were fitted, fuel econ is about the same, but it may pull a little bit harder i guess. Would have been interesting to get it dyno'd stock then after the exhaust was fitted to see what type of gain i got.
Another reason i got it all done at once is because it worked out alot cheaper, than getting different bits and pieces done at differnet times. Once you've got them fitted repost back saying what you think. Paul |

Extractors are worth it for me, my old ED had just a 2.5" exhaust(no extractors), and on idle it was ok, but when u drive off it sounded soooo dopey.
After I installed extractors the sound was sooo much better. I'd never go for a performance exhaust without extractors. I am looking into a entire exhaust system for my EL XR soon, and there aint no way im skippn the extractors

Joint in Ringwood.
They quoted 450 for extractors 290 for exhaust Asked them if they could do it for 700 and they said it would be fine. Makes it more tempting. Red back exhaust, pacemaker or genie headers. Magnaflow hi performance cat

i think extractors open the gateway to all ur other mods
ie the exhaust manifold becomes the restriction eventually so by removing it at the start .. you open the flood gates to all the new power you get!! i have just gotten a 2.5" press bent exhaust with single muffler for $280 from bruce mcleans at caboolture and my car seems to go better but not THAT much better.. with extractors im presuming it will haul alot nicer to redline ...the pace at which the car goes from 100rpm to 6000rpm is where the ehxuast shows its colours i think

Extractors are without a doubt the best modification you can do for the fact that they make the motor more efficent (less fuel) and more powerful.

well i was look at the 4499's over the comp's and ther's not lot of diffrence (pipe size) the comp's secondary is 4mm smaller over the 4499's witch im guessing gives the comp's that stock idle it depend's on how big the price diffrence is |

I have just put a set of lukey extractors on my ef gli and have found a fair difference..easier to rev and less throttle used to get same amount of go...As in my signature I have a full system, minus high flow cat (not doing high revs) and I got it all for under $400!!

What you really need is a head that flows much more than standard... hmmm wonder where you can get one of those hint hint look at my sig nudge nudge
On a serious note yeah they are worth it. Saves fuel IF you drive it easy, and sounds better when your up it. |

i got the standard paccies + hi flowcat + 2 1/2 mercury system. it sounded pretty good but the performance was awsome. from about 2800rpm upwards it was a completely different car.
also the 'better' paccies are really only worth the money if you get a mild+ cam. this is cause they are 'tuned' better therefor with the mild+ cam with the nice overlap of exhuast/intake they work alot better and they link the firer and exhast strokes up for even better results. |
