Default Boost

How much boost can be put into a stock XR6 motor before having to change the computer and injectors?

I was thinking of making my own set up using one of the older roots type Toyota superchargers. They're a positive displacement blower and displace 1400cc. The way I've worked it out, the blower should provide 40% more air than N/A. What that equates to in boost I don't know, and I may have worked it out wrong.

I thought it was 9psi before the map decides to give in... make sure you get a 12:1 rise of rate fuel reg and a pump as well cause it will lean out for sure evan @9psi.

that's a big call. You reckon you can run 10psi through a stock engine, bounce off the rev limiter at full boost and the engine will take it and get enough fuel without blowing itself into a million pieces?

Or do you mean 10psi with some form of fuel enhancement? such as a rising rate regulator?

Dunno if you would be wasting your time.

I know its hard to compare a 4.0L with a poxy 3.8L Iron Boat Anchor. I guy I knew had a rebuilt 3.8L in a VK, with one of those superchargers you are talking about. My car with my old motor, cat back exhaust, manual, 3.9's would beat it. He eventually ripped it off.

It will take 10psi before computer and injectors will be needed, but it will need reg and fuel pump instead these are a much cheaper items. i think this is what wayne is getting at.

Yagz, I answered his question.

He will not be able to run 10PSI without some fuel management changes.

I would say it depends on the fuel used more than anything and tuning as you all probably know mikes dyno white ea is a stock bottom end and he runs around the 21psi with stock internals but he doesnt use pump fuel and obviously runs aftermarket management.
As to how long it lasts he has done alot of runs on the limiter over tha past year and still has same bottom end.
head gasket differant story.....

Early E series run rich anyway. The bottom end of an I6 is very strong and you can get away with quite a bit from just changing the head.
