Could the Mondeo replace the Falcon?
Size wise it's very similar, the Falcon is around 200mm longer, the Mondeo is slightly wider and higher. If Ford Australia could fit a four litre motor into a Cortina, they could fit anything into a Mondeo. |

As a family car i can't see why it can't replace it.
I don't see that it needs a 4.0 6 cylinder, the current crop of engines do just fine. BTW a Mondeo RS would be nice to see. In wagon format...hmmmm

New Fusion will replace them both.

Yes the Mondeo could replace it, but it looks like new Mondeo/Fusion will replace it.

I think an AWD EcoBoost Titanium/Sport Mondeo/Fusion would be excellent as a practical family hack/fun machine.

It's not a replacement per se but it will become the biggest sedan Ford will sell after Falcon goes. It can never replace the Falcon though, 2 totally different cars.

Do you mean, will it provide certain journalists with a job to trumpet its soon-to-be-demise?

I'll gladly park the new Mondeo / Fusion in my shed. Plenty of tech, looks great..... If only it came with the 3.5 ecoboost V6 though.

Bring the sedan back and call it a Fusion. Just ad an ST version and you have a car to cover the majority.
Mustang can do the rest...

Fusion is available with 1.6 Ecoboost, 2.0 Ecoboost in FWD and AWD
There's also a hybrid and a plug in hybrid that goes 30 km on charge only. And of course the Lincoln version has a 3.7 V6 with AWD.... |

I reckon fusion is one of the best looking fords lol.
And if you don't like fusion you probably won't like the fh/fg3 update. |

I think I can speak with a bit of experience on this one.....and the answer is yes.
There's little difference in interior space (I fit 3 car seats in the Mondeo) and the availability of a hatch/wagon is more practical. It's just a pity that we won't see the same level of performance as we have available in a turbocharged or V8 falcon - but too few seem to care about that anymore. The new Fusion/Mondeo certainly looks good.

so while it's not as wide internally as Falcon, the vehicle range certainly holds hope. But in all things, if Ford doesn't bother doing "push advertising" sales will stay uninspiring.. Upgraded Mondeo will be available at the same time as Falcon so not really a replacement, it just depends whether Ford will bother competing in large cars after 2016, who really knows.. |

No ******* way, it really is an old lady's car and should come with a free white hat for the parcell shelf
If you see this as a viable alternative you should just buy a Camry

Is there any chance that there is a Mondeo ST or Fusion SHO in development for the future. It's going to be hard to swallow if there is no high performance model.

If that could be a twin turbo v6 awd, bring it on. |

You cannot seriously be comparing a Mondeo with a Camry. If you are, then it just shows that you've never driven the Mondeo. I've driven both. Mondeo is much, much more of a driver's car than a Camry.

A few companies have made some aftermarket parts to make the new Fusion/Mondeo look even better than it already does.

Car companies build cars to sell...they don't build cars just for enthusiasts. probably 90% of drivers wouldn't know and wouldn't care which end is doing the driving. Getting the tail out is hardly high on the priorities of the average buyer.
I've been in a few Mondeos...they loaned us one at Ford when we got a towbar fitted to our G6E that we had owned for a week. It was a normal model, a diesel manual. After half an hour driving around Rocky my missus and I looked at one another and both said the same thing...if we'd driven that car first, before the Falcon, we'd have bought it in a heartbeat. A workmate has a Titanium XR5...awesome car, very euro, goes like the clappers. If you're just after "an car", then all the people buying Camrys ought to go to Ford and have a look at a Mondeo...it's so much better as a car it isn't funny. |
