A P-PLATER who clocked Victoria's highest recorded road speed of 255km/h during a marathon police chase has appeared in court.
Justin Andrew Pickering, 20, evaded police in Victoria and NSW during five pursuits over 500km on August 2 last year. The court heard he drove at 140km/h on the Hume Highway at Euroa in his new Subaru WRX STI. Pickering pleaded guilty at Broadmeadows Magistrates' Court to charges including reckless conduct endangering life, driving without P-plates, and exceeding the speed limit. Police said he had driven at up to 255km/h, which was the fastest speed recorded by a car in Victoria. Pickering's driving licence was disqualified in Western Australia and Queensland -- but he held a Victorian licence. The chase ended when Pickering drove into a dead-end street in Craigieburn. Pickering will appear in court again in March.

I'm sure he'll get off with an excuse like "These cars were designed to do those speeds". Much like that guy a couple of years ago who did 200 in a BMW and used that argument.

I will still contend that 255km/h is a strech,I am a little sceptical,I mean its not the first time a little extra sauce has been added to spice up a story by either media or police.. |

Not to mention the 4 or 5 times they clocked him at 200km/h in different towns, the thing that got me was that his Lawyer defence was, he had the mental capabilities of a 15 year old. I think thats a bit rough on the 15 year olds out there dont you think? and then they said he wrote the WRX of a week later.
I dont like to judge people but what can you say about this guy, he travelled all that distance then turned around twice on the highway (where was he going to go) to out run the police, Then he gets stuck in a dead end street. |

Seems I stand corrected.
Would be advisable the young fella invested in some lube.. A quick google search shows the 2000 model wrx's top speed as 130mph (209 km/h) and the wrx STi as 158mph (254km/h) so its on the money,I dont know why but I always thought the sti was just a body kit and handling package, seems they have a fair bit more go as well. This guy is originally from Perth and had a similar run in with the law here numerous times, serial offender.
He's a real nurdy looking bloke, would last 2 seconds in prison. Apparently in this chase he had 2 jerry cans of fuel and fireworks as well, I'd say his mental capacity is a lot lower than 15.

So how the hell does a 20 year-old P-plater with the mental maturity of a 16 year-old afford a brand new WRX STi??? Man, I must be in the wrong job!!

One of my work mates was going 275kph while testing the F6 Tornado for FPV in Northern Territory, so cars are capable of hitting higher than 200kph.
I cant justify traveling 255kph on a normal road sharing with other people, infact on my Ls i can find 100kph quite scary. |

Also if the lawyers defense is that this guy has the mental age of a 15/16 year old, why is he holding a drivers license? I thought you had to be older than that to be licensed. |

More like he sets a new record for being a knob :
I would not even think about doing 255km/h in my WRX. |

Anyone else think a licence is too easy to get.
Apart from that there are supposed to be systems in place to prevent losing a licence in one state and getting another in a different state. Holding licences in several states used to be common. |

Even if there is a limiter a quick ECU flash can get rid of it. Mercedes/AMG remove the 250Km/h limiter off their cars at the dealership if you ask nicely.. |

In the NT i was cruising in an BA NA6 with xr suspension at around 190 and it felt like i was doing 110.. was smooth as silk.. i know people, one in an aston martin Db9(his dads, was taking it to get serviced) he reached 250 on the M2, another i know reached 225 in his 2002 liberty(stock) on the M2 between pennant hills and the gates at maquarie(then as he was at the gates paying cash toll 2 SS highway patroll cars screamed pass at over 180... he got off the M2 quick smart :P(note: both times were late at night with nothing on the road

The WRX has 169kw's stock and the STi has 206kw's but both those figures are very underrated. A WRX will put out as much RWKW's as a supposedly 190kw Liberty
