Lexus LC Coupe wins design award

Designers single out Lexus LC 500 as best design of 2016.

Lexus' bold decision to send an elegant concept car into production continues to win support from the design community, with the LC 500 named production car of the year at the 2016 Geneva motor show.

A group of 20 judges including prominent car designers recognised the coupe's style as part of annual awards produced by Car Design News.

The Japanese brand is breaking new ground with its Porsche-rivaling coupe.

Guy Bird, editor of Car Design News, says "it was great to see the fantastic LF-LC concept faithfully translated into the beautiful LC production car with so little compromise. This is a rare thing in the automotive industry and should be celebrated".

Lexus' LF-LC concept starred in Australia's last international motor show, held in Sydney in 2012.

The V8 and V6 hybrid-powered coupe finished ahead of Volvo's handsomely proportioned V90 wagon and Bugatti's brutal Chiron as the top three production cars of the year. Renault's Trezor supercar concept was named concept car of the year.

This isn't the first prize for the LC 500, which received two awards as the best production car, and the model with the best interior at the Detroit motor show in January.

The LC 500 arrives locally in June.

Side on - Looks nice.

Front - Looks tough and typical Lexus.

But when looking at the 3/4 view from front, the rear sides / back end, look out of proportion somewhat.

The OP is being sarcastic?

That just serves as a prime example of why Toyota should stick to building reliable boring cars.

They still do. And so, that is what Lexus is for.

For a long time Lexus product could be seen as simply a more expensive Toyota with an L badge rather than a T.

Now there is clear stylistic and driving differentiation between Toyota and Lexus product even if many models share platforms.

I don't personally love Lexus styling, but at least its different and stands out from the same sameness of the German big 3.

It looks good in sections but it's not a cohesive design. You can't say it isn't aggressive though!

The current design trend for both Toyota and Lexus can be best described by me as fugly.

No.
Side profile is great, front 1/4 view shows those big hips badly. Exaggerated sirocco haunches.

The OP offered no opinion on the car.

The home page of the Sydney Morning Herald had a photo of the Lexus under the heading 'Is this the best looking car on sale?' and I quoted it word for word.

My opinion for what it's worth is no, I don't believe it's the best looking car on sale, not by a long shot but it just reinforces that looks is subjective, as is how we spend our money and what we believe is important about a car.

A good example for me is my family never understand why I'm totally unwavering when I stipulate a vehicle for me has to be V8 equipped before I'll even consider it, where many others see that attribute as totally unnecessary.

I think Lexus needs to rethink and tone down their "Origami on wheels" styling theme. Maybe it is nicer in real life, but with some of the photos it isn't a great looking car for the price.
