Default How to move a car with No Wheels

Have an AU in my garage. Original plan was to strip it completely for parts, then cut the carcass into big bits and carry it out.

Can't be arsed, and just want it gone. Get it out the garage and call the scrap guy.

It still has the engine, doors, boot, etc.

Problem is that the rear axles and front suspension have been scavenged, so its not rolling out on its own wheels without a significant rebuild.
A crane won't clear the garage door, about the only mechanical method would be one of those long-reach forklifts like Pickles use, and that's hardly feasible.

If it were stripped, I could probably just use jacks and trolleys to move the carcass, but there's still a fair bit of weight.

Any Ideas?

Uuuummm I think you may have a slight problem.......Maybe try dragging it out of garage with a chain/towstrap with another car so a tow truck can get onto it and drag it up onto the tray. Sounds like its only worth a couple of hundred as scrap metal.

Couple of skateboards?

Or grab a few old pallets or whatever is handy and screw some castors to the bottom similar to this. Jack the car so you can get them under and a few mates to push/ steer to the kerb for the scrappy.

Borrow two jockey wheels from mates trailers, mount them to the diff flanges
Use some box section steel to replace struts & fit wheels to front...... Roll out?

As above is what I used in your situation. Had this at one end and a large trolley jack at the other. The scrap collector but chains through the open doors and lifted the car onto the flat bed and it was gone.

Yeah, I' m thinking pallets and castors would be the trick.

I might make up somethings that would be useful for furniture/ fridge moving in the future. Some meaty castors, and it should be ok.

Go jacks with short lengths of timber (600-800mm) to sit where the tyres normally sit in them and pallets on top

Wind down the windows and get a mate with a fork lift to put it on a trailer

Assuming the car is in the shed forward, hire a car trailer, jack up the rear of the car from as far forward as you can and reverse the trailer up as far as you can under it, lower it onto the trailer, use a trolley jack under the front and drag it on with a chain block. Use pieces of wood to protect the trailer.

We got a gas axe and chopped a ute into small enough pieces to be dragged out the yard by the three of us.

not a bad idea. Unfortunately the angle of our driveway means that the trailer would be angled upwards and never get under the rear.

Try all of the above
Use jokey wheels on each corner, logs or dollies underneath and call a scrap guy with a tilt tray, after it hits the tray will slide up

If you are not worried about your driveway, just get the scrappy to winch it on his truck. They will drag the car up.

Seen this done many times before.

whats your driveway like? I was recently in a similar situation but my driveway is dirt and rock and the truck couldn't get to the cars. So I just hooked cars going to scrap to the back of my EL wagon with chains and belly dragged them to a place where the truck could reach them. Ended up being easier then I excepted even with the shells being loaded up with parts
