If it trys to draw that much power from a standard 10amp power point, it can overload the circuit. But if you are only going to use it for light panel work, then putting a 10amp plug on it probably wont be a problem.

yes me too , but normally on industrial sites . in your home its a little different , however welding car panels will draw no where near 10 amps . |

Changing the plug will probably void your 1yr warranty...
It would be better to simply ask an electrician to wire in a 15amp outlet in your shed. I have a portable mig welder with a 10amp plug and no dramas, but i also have an arc welder with a 10amp plug and it blows the circuitbreaker after 20 or so secs of continuous use! The price is pretty good too! A lot cheaper then prices in Townsville, but then freight would bring it up to the same as the shop price im guessing.

if you don't know what you are talking about please don't give advice on electrical matters do not under any circumstances put on a 10A plug the reason it has a 15 A plus is the welder can not run saqfely on a 10A outlet.

i use a patch lead with my Mig, has a 15amp socket on one end for the Mig to plug into,
500mm of 15 amp wiring and a standard 10 amp plug on the other end for the power point. caravan shops sell these too, for powering your caravan short term off the mains power. iirc bunning sell the individual components too

I have a 10 amp wired onto my 250amp ac/dc tig welder never had an issue in fact my tafe teacher wired it on for me 4 or so years ago. I have had it trip circuit occasionally whilst welding alloy at 200+amps but other than that no probs.
Mine never came with a plug when i bought in fact it looked like it was set up to be hard wired or run 2 phase. But single phase 10amps works no problems. Note it is an invertor welder aswell |

not true at all . the reason the welder has a 15amp plug is because it will draw upto 15 amps . the wiring and circuitry in a HOUSE !!! is designed to share loads over multiple outlets , drawing too much current creates heat which can melt wiring .if this were to happen a fire could start . for this reason circuit breakers are fitted to trip before this occurs 15 amp sockets usually have upgraded thicker wiring from the source to the outlet ,and then a higher circuit breaker also, nothng to do with the welder really . you can always buy a welder with a 10 amp plug , which will run lower amps , ideally suitable for small work . they are 10 amp sockets for a reason . |

just have a cord with a 15amp female and 10amp male and a 10amp fuse in the middle. if it goes over 10amp the fuse blows and all is well.

Note aside from the fact it's illegal, any of the solution to run the 15amp welder through a 10 amp circuit will risk overheating the circuit and a ceiling fire where the damage will not be covered by insurance. And there are plenty of small mig welders available that only need a 10 amp circuit.

The wiring size through house is the same.. It's just that 15 amp outlets have it's OWN circuit with it's own breaker..
As said there's multiple power points per circuit and total load could add up.. Seeing this is a public forum .. You should get a welding circuit fitted ... If you fit the adapter plug ?? Fit a 20 amp breaker if fused??

im pretty sure you cant get .6mm gasless wire?
.8mm minimum, so extra heat, extra buckles, extra spoggy poop, Lincoln sell a very good Mig welder, a 197 Amp for around $500, plus $200 for the argoshield light gas setup, plus rental

just thinking,
i run my Cigweld 180 Amp Mig off a ringgrip 6 way power board, rated at 10 Amps, and at the same time i have 3x 36 Watt fluros running off the same powerboard. i would be lucky to trip the 10 Amp circuit breaker in the powerboard once a month.
