Hi guys and girls,
My neighbour has a 00 festiva and has lost all gears. The shift moves moves around loosely and I can see the selector shaft moving but won't select any gears. Is this a simple job or does the box have to come out.

Hi. Auto or manual? If its an auto there will only be one selector and the box will need to come out. If its a manual there could be two selector shafts (one that moves when you push the lever back or forward and one that moves when you move the stick sideways). If you have both motions on the box it would need to come out, if there is only movement when the stick is moved sideways it may have a broken cable. Cheers MD

Below is the image of the linkage set up on a 1.5 WB Festiva, 1.3 is very similar. Check the linkage bushes and pins (numbers 2,6,7,9,16,17 and 19) it is common for them to wear and cause excessive movement in the linkages. It is also common for the base plate number 5 to fall apart with the internals numbered 10-15 breaking off. This may help on the shift side of things, otherwise its a transmission internal issue and trans needs to come out and pulled apart. Pulling the trans out is not so hard, but pulling apart is another thing and best sent to a trans place.
