Default Au 6 cyl oil filters

G'day all, I am looking for a decent oil filter for my Au XR6, the Ryco Z9 are now made in China and Ford is selling Thai made ones. I want a decent performing filter and not some Asian cheapie! I see from a search that Purolater Puerone are well thought of, a specific location in Melbourne in or near the Glen Waverly area would be great!
cheers
Bill.

Purolator. The only type I can find is the Z9 at autobahn. 3500ks and oil is still clear as the day I put it in.

Supposedly the oil will stay clear for twice as long. So far this is proving correct for me.

I think they are about the same price as most other filters. I got given a couple of 2nd hand ones : J/k. I haven't heard anything from Ford about them. But I'll continue to use them based on what most people are saying about them and how good they are.

Let me educate you quickly....
All brands have a Manufacturing warranty so if Ford knocked it back the brand of filter is the next phase to go.
If a manufacturer can't make a Z9 realiable they might as well make nothing.
Purolator is a brand picking up market share just over the last couple years.
One of the largest names in the USA and been doing it since 1923.
Plenty of OE business and infact all Motorcraft US is made by them.
So do you reckon they have good backup ? You bet they do.
PremiumPlus is very good trapping 96% of contaminents while the equivelant in PureOne is 98% due to more media(paper) in the filter.
Autopro are one crowd really getting behind it and so are many independants.
If they don't have ask them to get it, it's available to them.

I think I paid around $14, which is about twice the price as a normal Z9, but if it makes your oil last twice as long, you will incure a nice little saving, and some peice of mind.

I swap oil and filter that often that the oil really doesn't discolour .... the Z9 is fine for me ... it starts getting a little expensive if I had to buy a more expensive filter regularly. Especially when like me ... you have to get one every month for an oil change.

If the oil is clean why not extend your service interval ?

I should mention PremiumPlus is the direct competitor to Ryco and any other brands at the low reatil level. So for those like Mechan1k don't want to pay the higher $ Premium should be around $5.
PureOne's only competitor in this country is FramExtraGaurd which hardly has any distribution.
PremiumPlus still better than most of the everyday brands.

K&N also do a good filter.

Ford used to produce an AFL-1HP, has anyone checked if they still do?

id like to try purolator but im still waiting for a freebie from maurie :

just out of interest, if you dont have to change your filter for twice as long, but you still change your oil, you still take the filter off and tip it out or what? may sound dump... :nutsycuck

Adam never change oil and not the filter, defeats the purpose.
I'll see you at your business bbq with a couple lol......

smally351, K&N are damn good also but "not apples with apples" they are high performance at a much higher price. Though I do know off some very Hi Performance engines with Puroltors.

I'm flattered BD that you should think of my car that way, but seriously, there are others out there worthy of that title. Yeah maybe I'm being a little modest :

I rack up the kays pretty quick ... it's just insurance for the engine to last a bit longer doing it this way ... also LPG oil really doesn't discolour much compared to oil from a petrol engine.

The ute is always running constantly ... a lot of stop/starting ... idling in city traffic ... heavy load work.

If i keep the oil in good nick and change it regularly ... the engine will lst me longer .. the only thing I need to keep doing more regularly is auto transmission services ... not cheap really ... looking at an oil cooler very soon ... so I am hoping that I don't have to replace the fluid as often. Doesn't take much to burn the gearbox fluid in the stock 4-speed auto.
