Post The Word Thread

RIGMAROLE

Every now and then you come across a word you have never heard of and makes you feel stupid when you first hear it. (easy for me)

Rigmarole, a word, perfectly named and hard to inject into a conversation.

I don't like that word.

My 10yo son noticed a comment on a youtube vid. It had the word "fapping" in it. He asked me what "fapping" was and I said I don't know (I didn't).
So he googled it and said "don't worry dad, it just means masturbation" .
My ears pricked up and I tried to change the subject and told him to not to talk about "fapping" at school etc.
Then he said "why can't I say it?, what's masturbation?".....
I said it means when you touch yourself. He said "what's wrong with touching yourself"..... I changed the subject but surely it's too early to explain the true meaning to him.
Damn you internet slang.

We here at Ford Australia think we know that it is better to brand iteravely than to enhance macro-extensibly. Our functionality is unparalleled, but our web-enabled Total Quality Management and simple operation is usually considered a remarkable achievement. Think intra-1000/60/60/24/7/365. A company that can scale courageously will (at some indefinite point of time in the future) be able to engineer elegantly. Think nano-long-term. A company that can evolve correctly will (one day) be able to synergize correctly. A company that can strategize courageously will (at some point) be able to incubate elegantly. Our functionality is unmatched in the industry, but our wireless customized, integrated C2C management and user-proof use is usually considered a terrific achievement. We will orchestrate the ability of deliverables to maximize. We have come to know that if you seize virally then you may also upgrade proactively.

I may be the only person in the country, but i HATE the word "rank".
if we are talking a military rank, its acceptable, but to use it as a word to describe something disgusting, it kind of makes me sick.

Really?

Douche: A stream of water, often containing medicinal or cleansing agents, that is applied to a body part or cavity for hygienic or therapeutic purposes.

It's also a word meaning 'shower' in German (Dusche).

Douche usually refers to hoo hoo irrigation, the rinsing of the hoo hoo, but it can also refer to the rinsing of any body cavity. A douche bag is a piece of equipment for douching—a bag for holding the fluid used in douching. To avoid transferring intestinal bacteria into the hoo hoo, the same bag must not be used for an enema and a hoo hoo douche.

Something I've noticed about footy commentators is that they tend to purposely use large words, or exaggerated full length names, to make themselves seem more intelligent.

I met a guy recently that finishes just about every sentence with "etc, etc", "And so forth", "and everything else", or "and that sort of thing".

My boss has started using the word "cycles" in place of "time."

"Do you have any cycles available today?"

I've also heard him use "solution" in place of "solve."

"Well, that solutions that."

My pet hate: adding "-wise" to the end of a word. Examples: job-wise and strategy-wise. Tom Harley seems to like strategy-wise a lot - I'm waiting for him to start using it in connection with psychology, as in "psycho-wise".

A lot of my Facebook friends have taken to saying 'whose' out of context. For example, 'whose free tonight'.

Grammar costs nothing.
