Talking What "NEW" Holden for this years Motor Show?

Lets see in the last few years Holden have stolen the Sydney Show with some exciting NEW forward thnnking inovative product or show car. We have had

NEW Monaro
NEW Sandman
NEW Torana
NEW hatchback
hmm whats this year?

how about the stick a really long boot on a stocko luxury Commy
NEW Brougham
or a p-$$ weak 1.6 Litre 4 cyn engine in a povo commy
NEW Commodore4/Sunbird

Maybe their theme music should be "Im livin in the 70s" by Skyhooks?

Probably a turbo or supercharged XU-6.

Maybe unveil part of the VE?

Doubt they will get too dramatic with the concept cars as they are so close to releasing the VE now.

I'm sure it will be better than whatever Ford brings to the show - in respect of their prior year efforts.

Dunno... but we won't be getting any concepts as a result of Holden's recent cost cutting.

I sure hope so. Even better i would like to hear the HRT 427 is goin into production but yeah very unlikely.

I think the SV6 might be a possibility since HSV canned the XU6 a while back because demand was low for it.

Maybe an early showing of VE? Doubt it, that was done with Torana, which also covered the turbo V6 argument too. Don't really know! Perhaps an HSV turbo Astra, as has been mentioned?

It's a tubbed Holden Viva hatch with 20" chromies and 5" exhaust. Oh yeah I forgot the wheelie bars and LS2 mounted across the front end still driving the front wheels through the 4spd auto transaxle.

Next year's showcar will be the VE of course, with a special "pimp" pack taking it down to 50% local content.

It was in go-auto a few weeks ago. There never really was a project past the concept car.

How about diesel Adventra, Crewman ect? Or even diesel Commodore. Maybe production versions of the Direct Injection LGP system on SS and LS2?

Don't hate me, but if Holden released a 2 door turbo 4 cylinder astra, rwd, or preferably awd, I'd buy it. 160-170 @ flywheel, weighing in at 1000-1050Kg. Give some competition to the Honda Integra Type R which is currently owning the economy and sporty 4 cylinder category.

HSV is going to be bringing in a suped up turbo Astra soon, so my guess is that might be there. Also they could bring in the Opel Speedser like they were planning a couple of years ago.

That's right, it was more a showcase or "toe-in-the-water" exercise for VE styling. That's why I reckon they won't bother showing a near production VE, even though it would steal any media thunder from Fords stand (again).

HSV’s first modern-era front-wheel drive small car will be based on Opel’s 176kW/320Nm turbocharged 2.0-litre Astra OPC launched at the Geneva motor show this year, offering a significant performance advantage over the 147kW Astra SRi turbo hatch Holden will release late this year.

I do like the idea of a new Sunbird, obviously it would only be available with vinyl interior and would have a standard accessory of Front Sun-Visor (colour coded of course!).

Maybe they could release an AWD raised commodore ute? Not really a concept, just fill before the VE...

You know I was only joking when I started this thread.
Having a go coz every year Holdens "New show stopper" is a reviving of an old idea. They dont seem to do new and original.

Anyway I read to day in the Telegraph that this year Holden are going to have a "Show stopper" this year

A Commodore based "FJ HOLDEN" concept!!!!

I mean thas it isnt it? Their NEW idea is an FJ?
Where will they go from here, they have gone back to the beginning.?
Next year will their show car have real horses to pull it?
(mind you, if fuel prices keep going up...)

Are you all jealous that Ford dont revive classics?

In reality, Holden are doing well promoting their Image and Branding... something which Ford lack. Holden normally seem to steal away the press from the Ford stand.

Unless Ford surprise us with a Focus ST or something of the like, i dont see the Ford stand being too appealing, apart from a new GT. Honestly, why cant they make one off concept cars? Holden had the Monaro Convertible, Torana, Sandman, SSX, Elfins... all great concept cars that got the attention... to THEIR stand!
