Hi All
Recently the compressor on my A/C started clicking on and off every few seconds. I pulled the A/C relay out from fuse box near battery and noticed that now the compressor works fine? I replaced the relay with a new one and have the same problem? What's the point of that relay if A/C works fine without it? Cheers

I would guess the fail safe mode is ON for safety so you can demist your window.
The relay I would guess is being used by the climate control or something to turn it off at a certain temp hence a I would say a faulty sensor is to blame.

compressor cutting in and out quickly usually means low gas
sorry can't answer the other part of your question but post #2 makes sense |

the compressor relay is to operate the clutch.
the A/C relay is to operate the fan-climate control systems. I only had this occure with climate control and faulty fanspeed controller.

Thanks for the replies.
The gas has been replaced so I can rule that out. Its a AU3 XR8, so no climate control. So what does the A/C relay underbonnet actually do? Does it tell thermofans to run at high speed and the cut A/C compressor out at WOT?
