Default Logitech G25 - Best Christmas Present EVER!

Wow. If there was one word to describe what I have in front of me, its simply WOW!

I was lucky enough to convince the other half that for Christmas this year I *needed* the new Logitech G25 steering wheel for PC and PS2/3. Even before I got this thing I knew it was the daddy of gaming wheels, but having used it for a couple of hours now, I know why, it is simply amazing. It is a twin-motor force feedback, 11", brushed stainless and hand stitched leather wheel with a separate shifter unit with the option for 6-speed (+ reverse) or sequential shift, as well as paddle shift on the wheel itself. The pedals (3 of them... there is even a clutch) are also brushed stainless and have some kind of spring or hydraulic system behind them for a realistic race car feel.

THIS. IS. AWESOME!

I you play racing sims at all, go and get one of these. Its better than sliced bread. It's almost better than driving a real car, because it almost feels like you are driving a real car.... Also, if you don't already, start playing Live For Speed or RFactor. Just so much fun. :

Sweet as mate, I got one last week too (after my HSC results came in ;) ). I use it to play LFS on PC , it's the best thing ever! RFactor isn't bad but the F1 car is damn hard to control!

The shifter sucks. Hard. Which is a shame given the quality of the the wheel and pedals. It also highlights the good part of not having a missus. Only person I needed to convince to get this wheel when it was released was... me! and I didn't even put up a struggle.

It does feel a little flimsy but its not attached to anything resembling an actual gear box, so its not going to feel as solid. If it can survive my drunken mates shifting gears like its a $100 bush basher then its strong enough for me.

I'm honestly more worried about the 5 speed in my BA

Matt, best thing you could do is get your hands on a car seat and build a cockpit for it . I built mine myself and it is awesomely sweet

Give it time. Mine gets stuck in the gate going from 4th to 5th at random intervals (which is why I try to only drive 4 speeds in GTL) and similar problems have been reported by other users. I also don't like the flimsyness you describle. I'm not ham-fisted with it but they could have introduced a little resistance.

Sequential isn't bad which is what I use for GTR2. Given the quality of the rest of the wheel I really think it's let down badly by the shifter. I'm considering trying to get an ACT Labs shifter which is apparently top notch to replace it.

Before you consider going overseas for a Shifter have a look at the Advantage 1 Shifter. I've got a set of his pedals and they are top quality. all metal construction, no shitty plastic that wears.

It may cost a bit more, but its all aussie made and it'd be a hell of alot more easier on warranty if anything was to go wrong

Mmmm G25 is good but that Advantage 1 stuff looks really frickin good... if only I had the dollars! I got an iPod off the missus for christmas, perhaps I should've asked for a wheel instead :

Good to see that you’ve got the right car up on the screen there, Ken, however, you’ll have to re-engineer it so the shifter can go on the right. _2:

The modern GT's would use paddle shifts behind the wheel wouldn't they?

Its funny, i go on a US gaming forum and always cop a fair bit of crap because of the shifter being on the left

Oh, believe me, it's on the cards!

Ive been doing some research on the interweb on all sorts of goodies you can pick up for the ultimate cockpit setup, and there's a lot out there!

For space reasons, I can't put it together just yet, but in about 6 months I will be moving house and thats when it's all going to happen.

I purchased a G25 middle of 2007 but can't get it to work with Windows Vista. If anybody can help me I would greatly appreciate it.

They are a pretty good bit of kit. I tried one out and was very impressed, so one day (hopefully) I'll own one. I have the G5 mouse and G15 keyboard and both of those really are ace, so yeah maybe. I've got one of the MOMO racing wheels and to be honest I don't know why all the reviews praise it so much, it's not that great. It's not bad, but gees.

Glad your enjoying it, LFS is good ay!

I play rFactor quite alot and the guys on there say you can pick up 1 sec a lap with the G25. I have to keep telling myself its a game my real toy is in the garage, so i can justify not getting a G25. lol.

I read an article on these a few years ago when they were being first tested and the guy couldn'dt beleive how good they were. I found it funny when he said that he almost smacked his head on the screen when he hit the anchors on the first corner of the track he was racing on :

Awesome setup there, i'm still using my old driving force pro I got with GT4, it still works a treat with Live for Speed. Mind you, I don't use the 900 degree feature, its too slow to turn, how smooth is the G25?

Very. I've owned a few wheels and they all feel notchy. Not the G25. Feels awesome with excellent FFB.
