Pedders have told me my shock towers need replacing and said it was a common AU problem. Is it?
When im driving over any kind of bumps the back end makes loud banging noise! Looking at the top of the shocker mounts in the boot, theres broken rubber everywhere...does that mean anything? thats how pedders determined it was the shock towers. Was quoted 350 for both sides fitted...

Shock tower rubbers is what they mean... shock towers themselves are structual steel sections that house the shock absorbing assembly...
Not sure on the price though... i havent done mine yet, but there are tutorials on here somewhere :P

Id be calling up Fulcrum Suspension for an alternate quote.
They are the site sponsor and are more likely willing to help members out.

They are about $90-$100 a side for the parts from Ford and they are a Ford only part. $150 for labour doesn't seem too bad to me, just make sure that they add in an extra washer under the nut as Ford changed the design on them and the washer is required for longevity.

With this washer you talk about i assume thats the large one that has a thin layer of insulation on it?

hmmm so this washer is it to distance the top big washer thingy away so that when you tighten the shocker bolt its not pulling the steel insert in the rubber up on the rubber? If that makes sense :

I was only going to do the "Add washers to tighten" tutorial but I'm going to have a look on the weekend and see if there is an easier way to remove the entire mount with the car on the ground. I bet there's not though.

nah i don't think theirs any easy way around them, you have 2 method's to choose from what i've seen, leaving the shock mount in and remove the shock and spring, or to undo the shock mount and remove the whole lot together and change the mount on the bench. i've found it easier to remove shock and spring first, but thats with lowered kings, with standard springs it could be a lot harder.

Go to the Tseries room & you'll find all you need to know about this issue. As been said around $90 each & you can fit them yourself if you are machanicly inclined.
No real big deal, but you will notice the car will love you.
