Wait until you're 30, then buy it. Insurance on that would be between 2500 & 4000 per year for under 30 y.o..

If you really wanted a xr8 that bad , and it's understandable being only 18 ;) , you could allways ask your parents to insure it in their name and put you as a second driver , although if you stack it you will probably have a hefty excess and make the yearly insurance price go up in their name ! .
Its sometimes a cheaper and legal way around it with alot of insurance companys, your covered pretty well in most cases except for your fault crashes , where its still covered but the excess and rating that goes onto your parents name aint the best.

They are great cars, but insurance will kill you. I was paying over $3k for insurance when i first bought my XR8...although my history is not great, and the car was insured for $30k.
19,990 sounds like a bit for a 2001 XR8. Is it a 200 or 220kw XR8? Plenty of potential in the little windsor too, easy 13sec cars with the right bits...

It is legal to insure the car in your parents name ( as if it's their second car ) , and have you down as the second driver , totally legal .
Oh i forgot to mention though , to make it fully legit you would have to put the XR8 in your parents name on the rego/owners papers when you buy it.

You can get a T2 for that sort of money if you look around. For me there is no contest on which to get.

If you hand the money to your parents and get them to purchanse the car , put it in their name , then who is to say it isn't theirs ! , its a totally legit loophole .

If your parents put the rego in their name, they buy it, and they insure it as there second car, and list you as a second driver and you crash it, you COULD be in trouble. I work for an insurance company and some of the things we hear is scary. If they think it is your car, then they are in their own rights to start asking your neighbours "Who drives this car", they might even ask people at your work. If they prove that your actually the main driver, but only noted as a second driver then you could be in trouble. They could deny the claim, charge you more premium, or additional excess's. Just put it in your name, be honest, if your 18 and you can afford a V8, then just pay the price to insure it.

If i was nominated as a second drive the price was much less, but there where always conditions around the amount of hours per month/year i was allowed to drive the car. I think this is where the "Ask the neighbours" scenario comes into play... I dunno...I suppose the risk of getting denied a claim is reasonbly low, but the cost if you where to get denied could be horrendous.

Just wait a few more years, till insurance gets cheaper, then do it. Must admit, that V8 noise, and the torque, you'll never look back.

For those in NSW, you also need to make sure you tell the CTP holder that you are the main driver too. Just so much easier to do it as your car, see as though the cost is the same either way. But i must say i can see why you want to look at cutting corners. I did a quote based on my suburb (ST CLAIR) and your age (18) and it came back at $4584.70. I could not believe it... I thought $941 for my AU 6 Futura and me being 26 years old was way too much to pay... i'll stop complaining i think...
