hi everyone
i have a 2001 xr8 220 i have owned the car for 3 months it only has 60000 on the clock being 5 years old should i replace plugs and leads or not and will this make a difference to the performace of my car its still running stock plugs and leads. can anyone reccomend some plugs and leads if u rekon they need changing. |

Check the service book and see when they were last done. You may have iridium plugs which are meant to last 60,000 kays or so. Otherwise the standard plugs get replaced once a year or 20,000 for about $4 each!
It's pretty easy to change plugs and leads on an 8 from what I understand, but the leads should be fine. I have 2 AU I6's but soon enough some of the V8 boys will give you some advice! As far as performance goes, there has been much discussion on whether "high performance" plugs and leads make much difference and if I'm not mistaken, they don't appear to much at all. Certainly not enough to be charged $20 odd bucks a plug extra! GK

My 220 felt fine to drive at 65000 ks ..but replaced the leads & plugs whilst looking for another gremlin .. it picked up nearly 3.1/0ths on the track with no other changes ..so I would say yes to a new set of leads & plugs
I used NKG for both .. cheers ,,whoosha

I thought the plug's are the Iridium's on AU II/III XR8's and they should last for 100,000klm.

If the car has only done 60,000 kays, you shouldn't have to worry.
But I am not a real big fan of these "drop them in and forget about them for 3-4years" iridium/titanium/planetarium spark plugs. Was checking mine out the other day and they are shocking, with gaps all over the place after only about 65,000kms... If you need to check them every other oil change, might as well just run some good quality $2 copper plugs.

At $200 a set for the plugs, and the same again for leads, it's your choice, but if it's not missing at all, then I would check the plugs, and if they look ok, give them a quick hit with a wire brush and re-install them.
