Default Power issues.

On the same day that I picked my car up I had id put on the dyno. It came up with 130.5rwkw, slightly less than I was expecting. Now here is the problem, it is pretty much useless at anything below 3,000rpm if i've got the boot into it, takes off better at half throttle. Also it pings badly high in the rev rande in first and all the way through second with the boot well and truly buried. I've tried both optimax and ultimate and still i'm having the same issues, what could be causing this? The mods to it are in my sig, as you can see I really should be getting more power than what I am.

Mmm sounds like she's way out of tune.
With the bolt on mods you have and manual your end figure should be around the 190rwkw. Not that the end figure is the true indicator how the car should go.
Nothing wrong with a Unichip tune, my 220XR8 auto with only exhaust done best figure was 180rwkw.
Check out whooosa, he has unichip can't remember the other mods but he's around 200rwkw from memory.

Whoosha's best from memory is 192rwkw.

Just wanted to jump in on this and ask a few questions of my own. My ute has a Unichip and is at the moment experiencing a bit of a power delivery problem i.e. poor throttle response.

Im wondering if its possible for a Unichip to go out of tune etc? From what I gather mine was tuned and then never touched again, and I havent done anything to it either. Is there anything that would cause it to "lose" the tune etc?

G&D still do all the unichip tunes.
Tell them you are from aufalcon and get a 5% discount straight away off the price.

I was just having a chat to them about the "edit", once I convince the missus I reckon that that is probably the best way to go.

Absolutely it is.. and you can recoupe a few hundred selling the unichip on ebay too

Just be careful though.. there are ghosts at G&D that whisper things in your ear..

"new diff.. do it... you want more power... need a cam.. you know you want it" :

Their power lust is infectious.. but I can assure you that you will be grinning so much it hurts

Bugger I completly forgot to do it before I left for work, I'll make sure I do it tomorrow arvo. In the mean time can anyone think of a way that I can stop it from pinging.

Are you sure it's pinging? If it is, the only way I know to stop pinging is to use gentle throttle application, nothing over about 1/4 thorttle. But if the tune is really that bad that it is really pinging, then the only way would be to cut the unichip out. You will get an instant performance boost as well. I you're thinking of getting the edit, you might as well cut the unichip out anyway just to see if that is the problem - if it's not the issue and you leave the wires marked in some way, you can always splice it back in later (I would snip off the unichip wires leaving about 5mm attached, and wrap with electrical tape).

Only problem with that, and I probably should have mentioned it, is that the dealer thinks that it has mild herrod cam. If so and I do cut the chip out I doubt that the ECU could run it.

You don't need a chip to run a cam, especially if it is only a mild one - you only need a chip to get the most out of the cam. The factory ECU will take some pretty savage mods. For example the I6s can be turbo'd (at low boost) running the stock ECU, and they'll get around 160/170 rwkw. The worst that would happen is that the car will run rich, which is much better than it pinging it's head off.

If you're not sure, contact Rob Herrod and see what he says about removing the chip.

Bewdy, i'll get on to that A.S.A.P. I'm already sick of only getting 400k to a tank down the highway.

Had the same issue with a Herrod modded xr8, engine has cam and chip etc(250kw package) when the chip stuffed up and had to be sent away to get replaced, the car run like a bag of ****, no power, stalled etc.
The ECU couldnt handle the cam. Even after driving it for just over a week, it toasted both hi flow cats.

I sure Rob Herrod would have on record what they had done to the car, get hold of them first to confirm the mods to the car, then a decision can be made what to do.

Already tried that, they said that it must have been on their old system.

It wouldn't be something simple and stupid like plugs or oxy sensors would it.

Worn/old plugs won't make it run lean (ping), either will faulty O2 sensors - the default tune is always rich, as it does less damage to a motor than a lean mix.

Looks like the only real option then is the flash tuner.

VENOM RED AUII XR8 220. Correct me if i am wrong here but didnt the 220kw motor come out in the series 3 and the series two had the 200kw motor in it and if that is the case 130.5rwkw's would nearly be rite considering that the 185kw motor i have in my xr8 series 2 ute puts out about 120rwkws when in stock form
