How long do they live for?
I just found 1 of mine dead, and was wondering how long there meant to live for? Thanks Toby |

As you can see, the budgie had BALLS!

An important thing to know before buying oneself a pet bird is the maximum life span of the wanted species. In case of a budgie, one can expect the birds to become 10 to 12 years old if one treats them in an ideal way. But normally, budgies do not live that long. Most of the birds live for only five to ten years, which is a realistic value for their life pan. It is not possible to derive the age of a mature budgie from its outer appearance. A five years old budgie looks exactly the same as a 15 years old bird.

Bud (the budgie) was a little over 4 AFAIK so it looks like it had a average length life....
Thanks Delboy.... |
Yeah give or take, life span was not 'abnormal' , a little on the low side, i thought they lived longer, i guess you get the good with the disapointing .... :)
|
Yeah true, still 1 left :P
|
did you know you are sposed to worm budgies?
my GFs parents one just died and the vet said they were sposed to be wormed. we were thinking WTF!! it either died from that or some egg thing (whatever the vet called it) which was basically it had an egg stuck inside it and it couldnt get it out. so WORM YOUR BIRDS people. |
hmmmmm..... thats new's to me! never thought of that! hmmmm.......
|
Mine only ever seem to last a few months....
|
Is it just me, or when i saw this thread and talking about dead budgies, i replay taht scence in dumb and dumber over and over again "pretty bird, who's a pretty bird" when they give that kid the headless budgie hahahahah
|
they seem to taste the best at about 6 years. LOL :evil_laug
no.. i dont know the exact life span of BUDGIES... as our old ones always used to escape the avery... But an experience i had with my 2 love birds was WEIRD! : one of them decided to die, then in about 30 minutes the partner threw it in too! one was looking pretty SH!ty, though the other was looking perfect and was singing all day.. so yeah i have heard of that happening before too.. weird hey? |

I had a couple of budgies that lasted over 10 years or so.

Budgies are so much fun. We had a blue one until it decided that it wanted out and managed to open the cage and get out. So now we have one yellow one, the boy was not happy as it was his budgie.

Budgies are pearlers, train them young and they really develop a great character, to the point of becoming real smart asses!
The one we got early this year makes sure we know about it if his feed is low or he wants to talk to his mates outside! |
Ive been playing around with budgies for prob 20 yrs or so. My father is a breeder of birds, so tis all but impossible to not know a thing or 3 about em I guess.
On average they live 7-10 years in aviary conditions (much tougher life then living inside a nice warm house, getting everything you could possibly desire) |

I used to have heaps of budgies. Even were breeding aswell. Managed to get a greyish white one which are rare. Reckon we had maybe 15 of them in the avairy until some looser delibrately opened the door to let them out.
I remember i was comming back from school and saw them flying around and was like arent they my birds. Got home and cage was open. I was sooo ****ed off. They are nice pets to have if you have the time to tame them. Definately my favourite bird. |
guys, keep this clean and on topic or there will be some smacks administered .. and no gimp suits involved!
