Supercharging?

Well i've been thinking about supercharging my ute, not something that's going to happen in a few days but hopefully in the not too distant future.
So i see Rudkin's xr8 in the for sale section using a CAPA type, can anyone give me some advice on which type to use, price range etc? Any info would be great.

Lets start with your budget, and how much power you want..

Blower kits start from about 3.5k from raptorsc.com.au

Broken blocks start from about 400rwhp

Just going on the standard engine, not looking to break any records.
If you see Rudkins AU in the for sale section just something like that i guess.

The CAPA and Raptor kits are essentially the same in what you get except CAPA is very dear for what you get. With either kit you should expect some additional work to be carried out (like piping, fuel system etc) but that would also depend on how far you want to push things.

I think if it were me I would go with the raptor kit that doesn't include the flash tuner and spend the tuning money on a quarterhorse system instead.

My utes got the J3 chip in it already so tuning side is no hassle .. Who does the raptor kit?

the cappa / raptor kits are really just belt driven turbos and suffer lag just like a turbo. the benifit of a "real" supercharger ( positive displacement) it they make boost right from idle so you get no lag. snort performance do a neat eaton M21 PD installation that fits where the standard inlet manifold lives

A PD blower is a nicer option but generally a more expensive one. For the average car that just needs a good boot in pants a centrifugal blower will do the job nicely.

$3999 for the eaton and $4999 for the sprintex is not exactly a budget breaker and is vastly superior to a raptor

The old style manifold setup would be nice ... can't find it on the snort website though.
They all seem to be around the same price, i don't need the tuning side as i already have that.
Anyone used any of these before?

I belive JC has played witrh the eaton setup I'm thinking about it myself just a but low on funds still ( but getting there)

Is the eaton 1 in the pic the same as the v8? or are they different. So that type is $3999 then your own tune?

Sorry i meant is the eaton 1 as showed on the 6cyl the same kit to fit a v8 or different?

I contacted Geoff a while ago regarding a setup for a V8 with a larger Eaton, he was more then happy to fabricate something to suit but at the time wasn't able to give an accurate price due to the nature of custom work..

Are you prepared to get dirty? If so, I'd be bringing over a single or twin turbo kit from the states, and adapting that to suit.. Look up on3 performance, those guys are great to deal with and know their stuff...

If it's a custom fitment job then I would say the quoted prices for a snort setup are going to be totally irrelevant. Lot more work to fit a V8 than an I6 where it just bolts onto the side.

Was talking to a mechanic mate today and he believes with the standard engine the Raptor kit would be the go as it's less stressful than the Eaton type that as you say works from idle and would put more strain through the running gear ... The way he said it made sense anyway lol.

Depends how it's mounted on the V8 and what you choose to do with it.
If you try to add in w2a intercooling it will get complicated and expensive, but that goes for both engines.
If it's just bolted to an adapted lower manifold, it's pretty straught forward (for someone that's done it before)
I would definitely throw my wager at the V8 being easier to mount than the I6.

I have JC's old I6 kit and I can tell you, bolting it to the side of an I6 is not a simple task.

Typical top mount style superchargers arn't overly available because of bonnet clearance.
once you consider the need to clear a dizzy (only on eseries) and the fuel rails, the supercharger sits quite high.

KB setups get around this by offsetting the blower and flipping it, but they're obviously more expensive then a raptor.

The KB kit would definitely be a great way to go, just need to bear in mind that is it NOT a bolt on kit, and I am not sure that it includes injectors / flash tune etc? Could make the costs blow out into a different ballpark compared to a Raptor..

my young brother brought a supercharger off a bloke upgrading the one on his mustang from the states in excellent condition for $600+ postage, a couple of hundred from memory, it is possible to get bargains like this and do it cheaper if you keep your eyes peeled and are willing to stuff around a bit .

I have a used Raptor Supercharger and 39lb injectors if anyone is interested. They were going onto my AU Intech project but since i have updated my car is no longer needed.

Just be aware the s/c mounting bracket differs between the 6 and the 8. You will need to ring up Tim from Raptor to get him to send out a mounting bracket and offer advice to what else would be required. Other than that, extra injectors, and everything should bolt on.
