Im gonna do this too. been lucky so far.Especially with the lower than standard vacuum for the brake booster. Good thread blueprint. I think the best brakes are always a welcome mod .Especially when you need them the most.

Doing the series two conversion - does that reduce the handling quality of the car
As a series 1 does handle better than a 2 or 3 - at least in the XR's anyway

Thanks mate... i have read many of the threads covering this issue, yet always ended up going cross eyed and was left still asking the same question all over again.

I think my list of parts is pretty well correct now....

AUII/III parts:
Slotted rotors
Pads
XR calipers
Lower Control Arm
Stub Axles
Sway Bar
Sway Bar Mounts
2×High Tensile bolts for the sway bars
Fastners to suit

Have i missed anything?

I don't think there is anything to base it on as it isn't true. Springs and swaybars are the same so unless the AUI has some magical part that was deleted on the AUII/III I can't see how.

Happy to be proven wrong though.

You may also want to opt for an AUII/III booster and master cylinder as the pedal will feel a little squishy im yet to upgrade mine but its on the todo list.

it wont take too long to convert I done this and the 6 speed conversion in 5 days in a relaxed manner.

Me too.Got dizzy reading that thread too. I am tempted to do this myself when I get the parts together or might get chief and his shop to do it if i get lazy.Ive heard that the rear setup bolt straight onto the rear but I will see when I size it all up.

I seem to remember that AU2 master cylinder / booster doesn't fit AU1? The AU1 wagon setup is bigger though, and might be the best option.

Well maybe this might help others then... as a full working list would be a big start... and then combination lists can be made from there... but i think, just keeping this list for the series 11 guys would be highely beneficial.

au1 brake booster has 2 mounting bolts.Au2 has 4.To fit the au2 unit you will have to drill 4 new holes to match. It will probably need a template made first then fitting.Dont know if the master cylinder is the same either.

Someone from Ford Australia once told me that the BA was a totally new car too, but we know that it's not.

I wouldn't believe everything that you hear.

Hey guys, i don't want to thread crap, but i have a set of ba xr6 brakes i need to get rid of.

It comes complete with almost everything you need for a series 1 conversion.
Just need to get sway bar plus links, and a new set of pads cause the guy who sold it to me gave me only 3 pieces of pad and the shitty thing is i would say the pads have around 70 to 75 % left.

I'm located in campbelltown (2566)

Price : 150

I can post some photos tomorrow if needed or come and have a look if ur close by, everything is in really good condition, even the discs looks like its hardly being warn.

Reason for selling : buying a new car and can't be bothered to put it on.

thanks.

Rotors are still available from Ford, RDA and DBA. DBA make the Tickford ones anyway, but they're around $1100 per pair from memory. RDA are about half that, but there's a range of them to suit and price varies accordingly. RDA are the cheapest, between $300-400 for a pair. That's all from memory, so don't quote me on those prices!

Question... how can you tell if calipers are Tickford units? I've had these offered to me for purchase by Norton and they are off an AUII XR8... i was lead to believe that all XR's had Tickford brakes...

If they are tickford brakes they will have the Tickford wings on the caliper. And their not small lol so you wouldn't miss them. And no, not all XR's got tickford brakes...

Those calipers look like the standard AU2-3 calipers. I just replaced my front ones and the twin piston calipers in the second pic are the same as the ones I took off my car. the rears also have PBR logos on them and I'm not sure if PBR did make the Tickford units.

Yeah, there is no Tickford wings on them. If they were I would probably keep them!

For $50 a pair they are a cheap upgrade if you are changing from series 1 front end.

Peter Brocks last task was to fit polarisers to the AU1 to make it handle better and to compensate for brakes that should have never been fitted. Fred Flintstone had better brakes than the AU1
