A bigger bore by itself won't make it more revvable, and in fact the extra weight of the larger pistons will probably lower the RPM at which the rods and/or big-ends will self-destruct. What will make it more revvable is the usual engine-builders' toolchest - lightweight pistons, stronger rods, stud girdle, blueprinting, harmonic balancer etc.

I think it goes with out saying that if you go to the trouble of boring, and you are going to need new pistons and rings anyway, then light weight, high compression pistons are used. Stronger rods wont be needed, as the I6 has a strong bottom end already..as proven by moderately boosted (200 or so rwkw) examples already out there, and to achieve more than 200rwkw would be most unlikely. Blueprinting wont be needed unless it is at constant high revs as in a race situation.

Joe was looking to build some headroom in. His original plan was to offer 2 bottom ends, IIRC 450hp-rated for NA and 600hp-rated for forced. He spent a lot of time stress-testing rods. Recent posts in the thread on Fordmods suggest that there will just be one bottom end offered, strong enough to handle a good serving of boost.

I spoke to Joe recently and he said he is still testing for relaibility. That includes an occassional flogging. If the intitial impressions are correct then these will be one of the most potent sixes ever.

The motor is in a test car getting around Sydney .As this hasnt been done before so Joe wants to be 100% sure that any teething problems are sorted and the car will be reliable. He is not a hodge bodge mechanic,he cares about what he does and he wants to do it properly. The only way to get an idea is put some kays on it. If he is not 100% happy he wont sell it...alot like me ..

He is a bloody fantastic bloke. From what i believe there are 2 cars going around? One is forced induction?? I remember talking to him about that, i can't remember if he said there was a turbo'd one going around or he wanted to get one going around.

Either way, should be close to 200rwkW N/A

In the old days it was a case of headwork, exhaust and physically sticking in the biggest pistons /capacity from an engine.

Actually ... i forgot to ask him about it last time I was in there.
I was too busy stuffing around with the steering in the ute.

Next time I am in there I'll ask him.

I believe Joe is initially developing the 4.8 for the E-series. The next highest level of enquiry has been from B-series owners, so he is likely to do a twincam version next, before tackling the AU. All this is discussed in the original thread on Fordmods.

Capacity has had to be dropped due to reliability ... looks like it'll be around the 4.6L mark now ... in doing so there is more range available in the parts that can be bought off the shelf as well.

Still in R&D.

There have been some V8's with less cubes than 4.6. Would love the thought of a stroker kit. ;)

Just imagine the idle you would get from a 4.6 litre I6 with an agressive cam, nice extractors out of a 2.5 inch...or maybe 3 inch?

Definitly going to help me get to my goal of 13 seconds :P
