Default Calling all Holden convert's

I may be overstepping the line for a starter motor

And I reckon this will open a can of worm's

But how many of you on here are really from the Holden stable, I will be the 1st to face the firing squad

I, in my time, have been the proud owner of (by year model)

1 FJ ute
1 FC ute
1 FC sedan
1 EJ sedan
1 EJ wagon
6 EH sedan's (still have 1 of these)
1 EH wagon
1 HK pemier
1 HQ panelvan

Come on fess up you other blokes, I'm on my third Ford, previouse was an EA, current one an AUII, and have had a trusty Xf ute for 3 years.

I still love the General, but price compared to comfort, I reckon he dropped the ball.

My first car was a Ford.

The next car I want is a EB or ED. 5 speed though.

If my family history repeats itself, I'll be a Ford man when I'm older.

All of my relatives that owned Holdens, in their younger days, now are Ford men.

1) VP Berlina - sold

2) AU III - sold (to parents hehe)

3) VT GTS - keeping

4) VN 5 speed - the runabout

Aside from the fact that the GTS is a beast, the AU has been the best car I've owned. Easily.

1972 Marina (1800OHC and NO sway bars.. So much fun in the wet :-)
1980 Gem (460.000 k's when I got rid of it, still running well)
VL Commo
Nissan Bluebird (hell it had aircon!!)
HZ Kingswood (the ol brown bastard.. loved it!)
EB 4L Auto (exc cars)
EF 4L Auto Wagon (even better, 370.000 k's when sold and still runs exc)
VZ Lumina wagon (nice car just crap at overtaking things)

BA Falc 4L Auto (just gotta own a falcon no matter what!)
06 Nissan Patrol

Still have the last two, the patrol may have to go tho, as it is too basic inside for 50 something thousand.

My olds had the XE growing up, I disliked driving it. My first car was a VH commodore, loved driving it. The olds then got a VR, hated that more than the XE, way too sloppy. I upgraded to the EF after test driving it and a VN5.0l. Luckily I was driving that when I met my wife as she didn't like Commodore drivers!!! We've since upgraded to the BF and while I'm happy with it and believe its the best car I've owned, after driving my bros VH SLE I still reckon they're a good car.

I've driven a few commodores and various other holdens (gemini's etc) when I had to.. and to be honest, I never thought they were as good to drive as the falcons.. Most of them were very uncomfortable too.

I've being Ford all my life (and mopar) but dad was a Holden boy growing up. He had a HJ and HQ before getting a cortina, then XD. Stayed with Ford since.

My second car was a WB Holden ute with a 304/m21/ 3;08 lsd. I spent a fortune getting the thing to go hard. When it went hard it burnt up clutches/gearboxes and diffs like cigarettes.
In my experience of owning and working on cars I have found that holdens have better built bodies/chassis,but crap drivelines. Valiant chrysler products have the best most powerful engines(by far),but don't handle or stop. Ford are the best all 'round reliable durable comfortable poweful car there is.
I have owned:
P76 v8
WB V8 ute
Toyota tercel
Mazda 626
77 Dodge 440 1/2 ton pickup
Xd Falcon
ZF fairlane
EF fairmont wagon (still have it)
AU XR8

Belong to neither 'camp' so this is an impartial opinion.

After years of Euro cars thought I'd try one of the local designs. Never liked Holdens, poor designs but thought after so many years they had to be OK. Got a VP Commodore and an Opel Barina. Commo was reliable enough but still badly designed - ratty interior, poor seating for long trips, no brakes. Didn't find out about the NCAP rating til after we sold it. If I'd known I was driving a car in which I faced certain death in a collision as low as 56 kph I wouldn't have bought it. The Barina was an absolute POS. From a few weeks after the 2yr warranty expired it started falling to pieces (mild urban use only) - wheel bearings, airbags, cooling system, then engine. Best friends with the NRMA. And it also had a low NCAP rating. (I think Holden couldn't give a rats about its customers' safety.)

Guys don't feel bad about your Fords. Holden can't make cars but its marketing and aftermarket run rings arounds Ford. What we need is cars designed by Ford, built by Toyota and with marketing and aftermarket (particularly dealers) by Holden.

'83 Mazda 323 "ss" 5spd
'89 Mitsubishi Magna Auto - motor blew, cbf replacing it.
'79 Ford Escort Van 4spd(RS2000 motor/gearbox/interior) - regret selling it.
'68 Datsun 1200 Auto - bought for $100 and it never died.
'86 Ford Falcon Auto - Paid $600 with 10 months reg and on gas, great car, until i crashed, wasnt worth fixing.
'98 Ford Fairmont Auto - best car ive owned by far, love it to pieces.

Next car - EF/EL XR8 stroker..

I had a VK Commie, was not a nice car always putting my hand in my pocket to keep it on the road, it was the only car I was forced to change the engine on because it clapped out.

Well I'm the stupid one bcause I started out with three Valiants before Holdens and then Fords... Should've stuck with the third Val, a 3 spd on the floor VG Pacer with 2 barrel 265 and dumped to the weeds with 12 slotters

VC I6 auto Commodore, engine died. Replaced recently but I never drive it.
VS V6 auto Commodore, daily driver.
EF I6 auto Falcon, daily driver.

Thinking about selling the VS and buying a 5 speed AU XR6. Hmm...
