Oil leak from dipstick tube.

well it appears that is where it is coming from as that is the highest point that I can find oil on the sump. There is oil all over the sump, cross member and the front of the tranny, and a few drops on the driveway too

: . Was this a common problem and is the simplest fix the most obvious, a dab of solastic around the base of the tube?

C'mon guys someone must have had this happen to them, the missus is going nuts because she just saw the oil stains in the driveway.

Clean the area in question with a gernie or such washer, start up the car and get someone to give it a bit of a rev while you take a gander at it. At least that way you'll hopefully see if that's actually where it's leaking.

Did that earlier, and even without doing that it is pretty obvious that that is where it is coming from...daylight helps lol. It is the highest and most forward point that there is oil and there is a visible mark where it has been "flowing". I've been told that all that is at the end of the tube is a rubber grommet and if that perishes or becomes dislodged it will most likely leak. So it looks like it's going to be a dab of solastic.

How much would a new dipstick be? Couldn't be much I'd reckon.

Mine seeps a tiny bit from there, just pull the tube out, clean it, and use some ultra blue, put it back on and done deal, nothing dramatic.

Got the same leak on my XR8, but it's not dropping any on the driveway - just covers the sump from the dipstick tube down.

mine was leaking not as serious as yours seems to be
there is o-ring at end of tube that seals against leakage u need to replace that
i had a real hard time removing tube some can be real tight so in the end i degreased the area and got black sealant so u cant see so easy and just smeared it around it cleaning off any excess hasnt leaked since...

Would seem that I have fixed it, the damn tube wasn't even in properly.
