I hope this thread gets closed its plain stupid.
Sounds like he has developed PVL (Post Viral Lethagy) or sometimes also known as CFS (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) in which case thank god he didn't come out and say as much, just imagine what you people would have had to say then!!! Maybe thats why he went to the USA for a while as it is better recognised over there and they actually try to treat it. |

Seems like his career was a pearler. Lots of success in competition, became a household name and now moving on with a LOT of years ahead of him. Lol... so exactly what else do people expect of a professional swimmer?

I can't believe how cut some people are in this thread.
He hasn't raced since Athens 2004. Don't you think that was a sign then that he'd had enough...???

Everyone seems to know what I was talking about, and the discussion was not actually about his achievements, sexuality or otherwise; it was about the **** poor media interview he gave, and the fact that it was live on TV, FFS he swam! Anyway, its gone way off topic.

My cousins used to train with him a few years ago, even got invited to his 21st. He seemed nice enough to them? Shame about his career, he was a good swimmer.

Aww cmon XRQTR dont be like that. All in fun all in fun. This thread is doubtful to survive anyway - so there is no use going too deep.

Hmmmm.........I'm honestly touched (intimately if you like) that you care so much XRQTR. In fact it was you who was on about the ability to read - yet you turn around and use 'there' instead of 'their'. But hey. Details details I guess. Your on your own talking about your lower appendages. That might be best left up to you, your mad scientist mate and your intimate knowledge of Ian Thorpe. |

thread is close to getting closed, stay on the topic at hand
I'm not really a fan of thorpey, but he has great achievements. I can sort of relate to his quitting situation- when I was younger in my early to mid teens I had won quite a few state titles and 3 national championships in middle distance running, after one of which my coach said to take a month off after a busy season. After the month was up, I couldnt really be bothered to keep going, training 5-6 times a week is your life. I kept running for another 6 months but i was always trying to force myself to go into comps and I felt the pressure of knowing everyone was going to ask why if I quit. Anyway, I did quit soon after and found new interests in beer lol |

Yeah back on topic eh.... He was a good swimmer but I feel there is too much emphasis placed on sporting achievements. Surely there are other australians who contribute far more to the advancement of this country?
