Default Linux

anyone using linux?

you know when you have movie files and cant play them you download codecs, vlc, xvid, divx all that what works on linux?
i know console stuff (black screen white writing) but cant get that to work..

btw i need linux because its the langauge we program in for uni

any help appreciated.

I not sure what you're asking mate...

What Linux distribution are you running?

Does your window manager load up - or do you only get the console?

Downloading codecs on Linux can be a bit difficult. (It can also be very easy - depends on the distribution.)

I run Ubuntu on all my PC's at home and I use a program called EasyUbuntu to automatically download all my codecs and a few other goodies that don't come installed by default.

Oh and VLC was originally a Linux program. It has been converted to run on windows.

im running SuSE 10.1 and the program manager or whatever is called yast.. i was gonna install ubuntu (was told its better than suse) but couldnt find the install files..

yeah its pretty much like windows except linux..lol no console programming for (sick of it)

This guide will instruct you on how to install all the various codecs you will want.

I've uninstalled Suse 10.1 for Ubuntu 6.06. I just like the far superior package management system. Suse is still a great distro.

im running ubuntu with bigpond cable and a dlink di-704 up router which has the bigpond client already onboard,no problems here!,goodbye spyware,adware and viruses,as Molly would say "do yourself a favour" and install ubuntu it's at

should of done this ages ago,so long MICRO$OFT!
if anyone would like a copy of the install cd just drop me a pm and i can see what i can do
as for movies etc im running vlc media player,does it all so far
