Pretty much no power difference at all. They're just air filters... they filter air.

For power, get a whole new intake.

If I could ad to this ancient thread, I bought a second hand panel for my EL 6 cyl, with approx fifty thousand k's on it, It made a noticeable difference. The throttle was more responsive, I found that I could cruise at speed limits at lower rpm than before.

The BIG difference was when I cleaned a 9 year old throttle body for the first time. it was like the panel filter difference x 2.

Car Idles smoother, accelerates smoother + faster, better fuel economy, engine is smoother throughout rev range, Cruise speed = quieter engine.

The problem I face now is the "capped" feeling of the exhaust, under 3k rpm you will notice the difference i think anyone who says otherwise has a dead engine. I didnt think filters made such a diff, but I Also think the filter that was in there before this was about 6 years old, i dunno if anyone had ever changed it, my dad thinks things just work forever and never get dirty. The car is in better hands now.. it is a 1997 EL with 197k odo. Cheers. Next is fat 3.5 inch polished custom alloy intake remove all restriction there, and then pacemakers etc. wish me luck.

theoretically if the Air Filter allows more air to pass shouldnt it increase performance as there isnt that LAG time to get the air into the engine? im not talking about a MAJOR performance. but just a slight one!

You get increased performance mainly by reducing restriction (ignoring resonance tuning). A stock air filter on a stock engine has almost no restriction through it so replacing it with a panel filter won't give you a measurable increase. They have the potential to flow more air than the stock filter so once you do some other mods you can start to see improvements. The major advantage of them is they possible flow more when dirty and they last longer

So I bought Piotr's BMC Panel Filter today. I had a drive right after I installed it and the car went NOTICEABLY quicker (to the owner of the blue Corolla Sportivo I saw today... if you're reading this... im sorry you got owned by a chick's car while your gf is watching :hihi: ).

Curious, I went to Castle Hill Exhaust and run it on a dyno. I was VERY surprised to see an average of 79.2kW at the wheels. Did 3 runs... 79.2kW, 80.1kW, 78.5kW. Once I find the driver for my scanner, I'll post the sheets/graph etc etc.

Not too bad... not too bad at all.

Other infos regarding my car :-

-2" Cat-back sports exhaust (installed by Castle Hill Exhaust)
-BP Ultimate fuel
-Castrol EDGE 5W-30 engine oil
-12,500kms on the odometer.
