Default Sunday Telegraph Sydney & Fords

Did anyone read today (24th April)'s Sunday Telegraph? Besides being a total rag of a newspaper, it had an article in the Cars Guide insert.

The title of the article was "Ford's quick fix leaves owners with a sour taste" and goes on to discuss the issues that some BA XR6 Turbo owners are having with Ford. Apparently a few of the cars have had problems with "overboosting" and Ford, on the quiet, have instructed service departments to "fix" the problem by recalibrating the computer. Then the owners come back to get their cars and find there is a sudden downturn in power and acceleration.

Some guy has even put this sticker on the back window of his car: " THIS CAR IS A LEMON. 18 times back to Ford and it still isn't right. Mainly engine problems. XR6 Turbo a fast car?- when it works! Should have bought an SS Commodore".

I'm just on my way to check out the website quoted, www.fordxr6turbo.com

Has anyone heard about this and has anyone had these problems? Just nobody's mentioned it on here is all.

I heard of a few guys talking about overboosting only to have their cars detune by Ford. But its only a few.

Yeah but apparently they are doing this "fix" to ALL of the XR6Ts cos of the problem, not just the 2% of them affected by this overboosting issue.

And I went over to the website quoted. The guys there are bitchin quite rightfully that the "journalist" just nicked everything everyone has posted on their forum - doesn't surprise me.

Seen the car and all i have to say about it is that he isnt doing himself any favours.

I find it highly unlikely that Ford would be recalibrating computers that dont need it. Overboost is a known problem with them, there is a TSB out and it requires replacement of some parts, not just a computer reflash although that it part of it.

i've only come across all these problems with fords since iv'e joined this forum . but with my own little experiances with ford i have no sympathy for them. do holdens have all these problems as well. i do give ford credit for backing their product but what is it going to be like for owners when warranties expire on these vehicles.?

Two points I noticed from my one eyed stand point:
* no actual figures presented, just *** meter assesments; lets see some before & after dynos before we go making these claims;
* never saw the equivalent articles to do with Gen III oil consumption, even though there were plenty of facts & figures.

Ha ha...... Well SS Commodores sell quite well already, so I don't see why they would have to go to those lengths.

Every car brand has a few lemons, even Mercs and BMWs, so what we have here is probably a very vocal minute minority.

If people get paranoid about ford techs changing their engine mapping, then simple, get it serviced somewhere else.

I would suspect that if this really is the case (engine de-tuning after delivery), then we have probably heard about it from the various Ford employees present on this forum.

There has not been an article on the Gen III issue blazed across two pages, in either of the two Sunday papers; OMO. I stand to be corrected.

maybe these cars with the problem were extra fast from new (...to much boost?) then got flashed back to proper specifications.

I understand the problem is too much boost being suddenly cut alltogether?

I've been there with a poor example of what Ford can build but going around with stickers on the car isn't going to get the help you need. If you have a genuine issue you need to fight it out based on facts and above all give them a chance to put things right. If they can't fix it I'm sure they'll work WITH you - not against you.

Too often owners make unrealistic demands - unfortunately as much as we'd like it to be otherwise some fixes take time.

On the XR6TQE-T issue - maybe that explains why the cars seem such slow dogs now. They were running more than the 6lbs and porbably won PCOTY based on a car by chance delivering more than standard boost.
