Default baptism / christening gifts for boys

this may seam like a strange place to be asking this, but i'm guessing there are a few people out there with kids...

i'm off to a good friends baptism on the weekend, and my wife is going to be the kids godmother. but we are stuck on 'meaningful' gifts to give the kid/parents..

she doesn't want the usual stuff that everyone will give, or something that will be thrown in a year or 2.

any ideas what to buy a godson? oh, and we aren't religious, and neither are the parents really.

if all else fails i'm pushing the quality scotch or similar to be cracked open on the 18th or 21st :voldar02:

thanks
-tim

The idea of the scotch to be cracked open on the 18th or 21st birthday is a really good one.

I bought a nice bottle of port (a commemorative one) that then had the name, birthday and naming day dates. It also had a nice wooden box that it could be displayed in. (had engraved on the box a little note saying bout drinking it on the child's 21st birthday).

Hmmmm Im trying to think, as I have never had to do this! OK, so it has to be tasteful and sensible, and obvously of good quality (no cheapie presents).... and something with a bit of meaning...

I would probably suggest as above, or a really nice silver photo frame for the baby, or a really nice photo album with those really nice covers and perhaps the baby's name embroidered onto it...

Jac .... you took the words right from me :P

Owens nephew was baptised recently and that is exactly what I got ..... a loverly photo album with a piccy I took of him at his birth. I put a message in it about filling it up with all the things he liked as he grew up as a momento.

The scotch and port suggestions are great as well ;)
