different size wheels on rear than fronts

ok firstly is it legal to have 16" on front and 17" on rear?

i ask only cause, ive stuffed a rim, bought 4 BA SR rims still have about 80% tread on front tyres -10% yes past canvas lol, on rears so if i replace the rears with the bigger rims and newish tyres and leave fronts is that ok?
dont care what it looks like, my wallet is more important right now

It would be OK I guess, there are a few people that run 19" on the front and 20" on the rears

It would be ok aslong as the rear wheels dont exceed the rolling diameter

Many cars come with a spare which the rim may be an inch or two smaller. AU and BA xr's are a good example.

i dont know if its different with show cars but there was a car running 18's at the front and 20's at the back (looked shocking imo) but they were the same rim (if u get it lol).

Yep, it should be fine. If you get caught, just tell them you have the 16s on temporarily as the other 17s are illegally bald and you're just saving it up to replace them.

I'd actually put the 17s on the front, and the 16s on the rear.

I know the Chrysler Cross Fire runs different diameter rims front and back. I think its 18s on the front and 19s on the rear. Dunno about the legalities though, especially if it didn't come that way from the factory.

One current showcar with different rims front & back is the Camaro. Its got 20s or 21s on the front and 22s on the back. But they have said that the actual production model wouldn't have wheels that big.

I believe it is legal withing the normal bounds of wheels swaps but you need to watch out for the different overall diameters playing havoc with ABS and/or traction control if you have them.

I put 265/35/18's on the rear of the TS (vs the standard 245/40'/18's) a differnce of about 5mm in overall diameter and that was enough to set of the traction control really easily. It drove me nuts so I ended up taking them off.

Doing it the way you propose will kick in abs all the time. a pity as I like the big/little wheel look kinds Hot Rod style.

Do you mean the actual rim size or the width of the actual tyre??
