the problem i have is the shaft where the gear selected attaches to is shorter and doesnt have thread on it for it to stay on. how do i get around this?

you will have to get an au selector shaft just curious to no why you are puttin a ba trans in an au?

we bought it cheap and my old trans broke so yeh. is there any easier options. has anyone else done this conversion. its out of an xr6 turbo

You may have to do a full BA shifter conversion. At least that way you'll get the SSS function as well, though you will need to buy the electronic box between the shifter and the AU ECU - PM me if you want details.
