Default AU Premium Sound Question

Guys

Everytime I start the car up the volume automatically turns itself down a lot lower than what it was set at when I was last driving. Had a look in the manual and have played with a few things but I can't work it out. Can this function be disabled so the volume is the same as the last time I was listening or is this a protection feature?

Cheers

I think it's a standard feature, same as when it turns itself down slightly as you stop. Mine did it too.

Yep, buy a new head unit!! :P This also happened in my fathers AUIII Ghia and he got so annoyed with it he ripped it out and got a new unit installed. To tell you the truth, even with the standard speakers, that one change made the system sound a fair bit better. I have heard the ford units tend to play up too, so that would be my recomendation.

Out of interest though, what are aftermarket headunits like regarding compatibility with steeering wheel controls? Another issue is finding one that fills the dash nicely as the premo one has quite a big face. I have also heard not all brands are able to put the aerial up and down if you are listening to the radio or not. I imagine it would be hard to find a good unit that satisfies all of this?

Will probably learn to live with the factory setup, bit over car stereos anyhow, been there and done that with other cars, at the end of the day I am happy enough with the premo sound and factory look.

I believe you can get adapter things which allow the steering wheel controls, one of the guys at JB Hifi showed me the unit they use for this. Unfortunately its quite pricey.

You can put a standard height stereo in there and underneath have one of those "coin trays" installed, or you could put a screen or something in to take up the whole space.

As for aerials and stuff I'm not sure as I only have a Forte with no electric one, but there was a thread somewhere fairly recently about this if I recall correctly.

I have an Eclipse headunit, and my father has a JVC headunit, and the arial works as per normal in both of our cars. I dont think you should have a problem there.

Yeah i replaced my headunit with a pioneer one not long ago, my aerial goes up even on CD but it doesnt bother me. I also got a 'tray' that sits underneath the unit. My premo sound in my old XR and now in my TE didnt turn down etc

This is a standard feature of the premium sound system, it's designed to raise and lower the volume to maintain a more or less constant level in reaction to road noise while you are driving, as far as I know it can't be disabled, I found that setting the volume with the engine off when I parked the car for the night (IE no road noise) would get around the problem.
