My father and both of his brothers had Chrysler Royale's in the late 60's.
I can remember seeing the three parked outside the grandparents house one time. Gee i must have been 6 or 7 at the time.

Sorry mate, I'm about to crush your hopes and dreams... unless you have really deep pockets.

I'm a bit of a mopar fan and I can tell you this is one those "even if they don't know it, everybody wants one" type of cars... Its a little bit special. Aside from the fact that there just over 1000 made, some of them were built with whats called a "MAX WEDGE" V8. The Chrysler Max Wedge V8 is a 413ci (same block as the 426) and earns its name from its wedge shaped combustion chambers. It is also different in that the manifold fitted to the motor accomodated 2 x 650cfm Carter 4bbl carburettors in a format that separated the carbs, placing them on opposite sides of the engine bay. This was done in an effort to increase the speed of the air/fuel mixture travelling through the manifold and into the engine. Through different compression ratios the 413ci Max Wedge displayed power outputs ranging from 375 - 420hp and was available in several Chryler and Dodge models in the early 1960s.

I found one for sale in NZ and have posted a link below. It has some excellent pictures of the engine bay showing the crazy crazy manifold. Its well worth a look!

No you dont , I had one powered by a 3 5/8 " side valve six and then later another in v8 , they handle badly have sfa brakes and no power , but they drink lots of fuel if that helps ( circa 1967) and flat out the v8 would just make the ton.

They were used as Police cars in NSW and as said above, they were so softly sprung that many rolled over during police chases.

NSW police also used the last model V8 Studibakers, Fairlane 500's. and AMC Matador V8's.

Chrysler Royal was a bitsa .. '53 Plymouth body and (initially) mechanicals with new front/rear qtr panels. It was Chrysler Australias cheap attempt to build a late fifties model car from an early fifties model one. However if you read any contempary road tests of imported Mopars of the same era they were quite often praised for their speed, braking and handling ... as compared to their peers

every one called it the pink bat mobile.

he was saying not long ago how he wished he had kept it. i think it went to newcastle area.

Three words HUBBA HUBBA HUBBA. Im loving this thread. Similar to a Vauxhall Cresta or a FB-EK. I know there is differences between all these models but you gotta admit, they look like they shared the same mother ! Maybe she had affairs with guys from America, England and Australia. :
